Hamden High School Reviews
Rating 3.55 out of 5 430 reviews
I graduated from Hamden High School as a part of the class of 2023 so I had an odd experience overall with the school… I really enjoyed the way the teachers handled situations (especially as violence broke out more and more closer to my graduation). I learned a lot about business management from the culinary arts classes and found that life skills were taught more often than not which really came in handy as I started my freshman year in college. All in all, I’d say it’s a pretty great school and it just depends on the relationships between the students themselves… go dragons!
My experience at Hamden High School is a mix of emotions. I do feel as though there are good aspects such as the music program, which is an eccentric cluster of students who share a love for music and put maximum effort into their playing, fundraising, events, and relationships with each other. I could say the same for the arts department in general including theater and traditional arts. On the other hand, I have seen my fair share of fights, hostile environments, and rude students and teachers. If you're in the area I think Hamden High is a decent enough school to attend but with the amount of distractions in the school and lack of care for good sturdy education attempts and trying to help students understand the material.
Hamden High is great for a public high school - there are tons of classes to choose from and students have a lot of leeway to make their own schedules. There are plenty of opportunities if you seek them out. Teachers are great and often underappreciated. However, administration is completely neglectful and the good students often end up slipping through the cracks. The only students who get any attention or help are those who make trouble. There are almost no rules that are actually enforced - students roam the halls and have over 50 absences without losing credit. While great, the school is definitely discouraging for high-achieving students.
