Ulster Table Tennis Individual Championships 2024

On Wednesday 17th April, RBAI entered pupils in the Ulster Table Tennis Individual Championships. The tournament consisted of over 300 pupils from across Ulster with 20 Post Primary Schools taking part. All together RBAI had 11 pupils playing across 4 age categories, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19.

Our team consisted of James Vallelly, Christopher Allsop, Dylan Shanmuganathan, Bryson McClelland, Ryan McBride, Aaditya Singh, Jack Robinson, Gareth McKeown, John Cunningham, Alex Garvin and Peter Wright.

James Vallelly represented the school in the Under 12 section, winning 2 of his three matches but lost in the last 16.

In the Under 14 section Dylan Shanmuganathan, Bryson McClelland, Jack Robinson, Gareth McKeown and Ryan McBride played well winning some of their matches but unfortunately did not making it through the later knockout rounds. Christopher Allsop won all his knockout matches and made it to the final where he played a fellow Irish schools’ representative from Sullivan Upper in the final which he won 3 sets to 1 to become the Under 14 Ulster Table Tennis Champion.

Aaditya Singh and John Cunningham both made the knockout rounds in the Under 16 section with John narrowly losing in the Quarter Finals. Aaditya, who was playing in an older section, made the final winning it 3-0 to become the Under 14 Ulster Table Tennis Champion.

The Under 19 section was extremely competitive with both Alex Garvin and Peter Wright unfortunately not making the knockout rounds. Alex however made the final of the consolation tournament narrowly losing in the final.

Well done to all those who took part in the Championship.
