Christina Ricci was born on February 12, 1980 in Santa Monica, California. She is the youngest of the four children of her mother Sarah, a realtor, and her father, a lawyer and therapist. The family moved to Montclair, New Jersey where Christina grew up. Always interested in the theater, Christina attended the Professional Children's School in New York City.

A Child Star

When she was just 8 years old, Christina Ricci was discovered by a local theater critic when performing in a production of The Twelve Days of Christmas. She was soon cast in a couple of Saturday Night Live's spoof commercials. She received her SAG AFTRA card. In 1990 Ricci was cast in the movie Mermaids. She played Cher's daughter Kate and Winona Ryder's little sister in the movie set in the late 1960's. Christina Ricci continues a steady career as a film actress, mostly starring in independent films. In 1995 she starred in Casper. She also appeared in Now and Then and Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain. In 1996 Ricci was in Bastard Out of Cardina and The Last of the High Kings. The following year she was in the remake of That Darn Cat and played the role of teenage Wendy in the Ice Storm which also starred Kevin Klein, Joan Allen, Henry Czemy, and Katie Holmes. In 1998 Ricci appeared in several movies including The Opposite of Sex, Buffalo '66, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Pecker, Desert Blue, and voiced the role of Gwendy in Small Soildiers. The following year Ricci played Katrina in Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp. The 2000's were successful for Christina Ricci. She had a starring role in Prozac Nation for which she reportedly earned $1 million. Through the early 2000's Ricci appeared steadily in independent films transitioning to adult roles. In 2013 she voiced a character in the animated movie The Smurfs. Other films in the 2010's include The Hero of Color City, Mothers and Daughters, and Distorted with John Cusack about a woman with bipolar disorder. Most recently Ricci appeared in 2020's Percy, 2021's The Matrix Resurrection. This year she appears in Monstrous and is currently filming The Dresden Sun playing the role of Dr. Dresda Corliss.

Before becoming a young movie star, Christina Ricci appeared in the television show H.E.L.P in 1990. She guest starred in television shows including a voice role in The Simpsons and episodes of Ally McBeal, Malcome In the Middle, Greys Anatomy, and Saving Grace. From 2011 through 2012 Ricci starred as Maggie in the show Pan Am. She reportedly earned $125,000 for the role. Ricci played the role of the infamous Lizzie Boarden who allegedly killed her father and step mother in the nineteenth century in the television film Lizzie Borden Took An Ax in 2014 and the 8 episode series that followed. In 2017 Ricci starred in the television series Z: The Beginning of Everything. She followed up with the television film Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story. Most recently she was in the television show 50 States of Flight, an episode of Rick and Morty in 2020. At the time Ricci also acted in the theater. She was in Broadway's Time Stands Still opposite Laura Linney. Ricci appeared in an off Broadway production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. She also sang a song and appeared in a music video for Beck's 2005 album. Ricci also appeared in music videos for Mermaid's theme song The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) with Cher and Winona Ryder and a couple of music videos for The Adams Family. They were briefly engaged but broke it off.Christina Ricci was married to James Heerdegen from 2013 until 2021. They met on the set of the television series Pan Am where Heerdegan worked as a dolly grip. They have one son together. Ricci married hairstylist Mark Hampton in 2021. They have a daughter together. Christina Ricci is a national spokesperson for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAIN). They live in a Hollywood Hills home worth $1.5 million.
