The best part of my experience is the ability to learn and grow as a theater person in across all apartments working with professionals and other people serious about the production. The worst part is since we’re still high schoolers it’s at times very hard to work with each other and people don’t always do their work and when personal conflicts happen it makes processes much harder than they should be.
Booker T is a great school if you are looking to expand your knowledge of the arts. It is great at helping students form connections, have performance experience, and work with college professors and prepare for colleges in the arts. However, if you are interested in academics there are a lot of schools out there which have much better offers than Booker T.
I love Booker T. The administrators can be difficult and there are several unpopular faculty members whose positions I question, if not wish to see them removed. Overall, though, the friends I have made, the hours I have spent, and the experience I have gained is worth it.
Booker T HSPVA Is an amazing school if you’re really passionate about the arts. This school grants you endless opportunities for both professional experience as well as personal growth!
My experience at Booker T Washington HSPVA has been an eye opener. I am a Freshmen taking On-Ramps Alg 2 and AP Music Theory. This year has taught me a lot about planning ahead and staying focused. Perseverance would be one word I would use to describe this year. Balancing stellar academics and my fine art has been a struggle, but I love the experiences and opportunities I get to have each and every day at my campus. I love my school.
Booker T is a wonderful school for those interested in going into the performing or visual arts. They have state of the art recording studios, dance studios and resources. However, communication between administration and students is poor. The food isn't good, either.
My daughter has truly enjoyed her years at Booker T. The best part of it is the community feeling and support the administration and students provide for each other. The communication has greatly improved over the years which was an area the school lacked.
It's an amazing school for artists, you will learn the true way to become a professional artist. Very heavy on the arts and spirit of true artistry. Academics could use a bit more focus.
Booker T is a magnet school in Dallas ISD that is focused on the arts. We have four conservatories: Music, Visual Arts, Theater, and Dance. I'm in the music conservatory. I was accepted through audition on both guitar and percussion. I love it here. There are all kinds of kids. It's a safe place to be whoever you are, and we support and encourage each other. Parents do a lot of volunteering if they want to, and the students do as well. I have opportunities several times every week to perform in front of others. It's a lot of work- I practice three to five hours a day in addition to my academic homework- but I love it.
My experience as a senior is very engaging when it comes to following your major and practicing, the teachers provide good insight for almost every area you want to pursue you just need to ask for guidance and they'll help.
BTWHSPVA provides students a unique and equal opportunity environment for artists that wish to further their careers after high school. We are provided with advanced resources to give us the best education possible. They hire faculty that understand, accept, and thrive on the creative culture of our school. As a dancer, I also appreciate that the school brings in many inspiring and professional artists to help shape us as both dancers and individuals. The faculty has made the school feel like home to me and so many students over the years, they have created a space that allows us to feel safe to be whoever we chose, act freely, and to find our identity within its walls. No school is perfect, but the number of lessons I have learned from both the faculty and students, as a part of this environment, is phenomenal and I am eternally grateful for the space they have created that allows such a positive and inclusive atmosphere for every student to flourish in their own way.
it’s a great place to be to express and be yourself without any judgement and the things that happen everyday is a true art kids dream
Coming into Booker T. I had absolutely no idea what to expect coming in my senior year. But I was welcomed with open arms and treated like I belong there. Booker T. has given me so much that I will carry with me forever: a home, family, friends, knowledge, memories, and so much more. I am forever grateful that I even got to experience a fraction of what Booker T. has to offer, and I know it will always be home regardless of my journey.
I really like Booker T., and I think it's a great school to go to! One thing about it is that before my time here, I heard a lot of people telling me things like "We're all one big happy family", and maybe people say that about every school, but it is not the experience I'm having. It's still a great school though, and it pushed me to challenge myself in a lot of new ways, both in my arts and academics. I just want to make sure no one incoming has super unrealistic expectations- it's not perfect, and it can be super frustrating, especially as there's a lack of communication about important things at pretty much every level. But still, this school has led me to a lot of opportunities that I am very, very grateful for.
Booker T is a great school with a variety of different arts to learn and experience. They open up new possibilities and expand your knowledge of arts ranging from 2D drawings and painting to 3D sculptures.
Booker T Washington HS in Dallas helped me find my passion again. My love for music started to disappear during COVID and I found it again after going back to campus. The teachers are supportive and really care about me. I am grateful for my time spent there.
This school is a really great environment and creatively stimulating place to be. There is always something going on to participate in and learn more.
