The iconic Howe Military Academy has been sold.

The school has been closed for a year now, and it will become a university in the fall.

It was sold to World Olivet Assembly. Today we spoke to an alum of Howe Military Academy who is trying to preserve its legacy.

“Now that the campus is being passed on to World Olivet assembly, I’m trying to collect all the memorabilia,” said alum Eleni Mitropoulos.

As an alum and a member of the board of trustees, Eleni Mitropoulos will preserve the academy’s most cherished belongings.

She attended the academy from seventh to 12th grade.

“I was here for six years, graduated in 2004.”

Today she collected bricks with other alumni’s names on them, including her father.

“I owe so much to this school that I could never even put into words. It’s unbelievable the amount of values and core beliefs that I’ve picked up.”

The military academy will now be Great Commission University owned by World Olivet Assembly.

“We want to turn this into a place where people who are seeking Christ can come and learn to be educated,” said chairman Nicolas Haman.

Haman says the university will still have core classes, but religion will be the main focus. Howe Military Academy also implemented religion into the curriculum.

Mitropoulos is on board with the new university.

“I’m excited, I’m really looking forward to what they can do with the campus and I’m glad that it will be used appropriately.”

And she wants everyone to know Howe Military Academy’s legacy will live on.

“I really want people to know Howe will live in one way or another whether it’s from alumni memobilia...this isn’t the end for Howe, it’s a change for the campus.”

The Great Commission University Chairperson says he expects to have a couple hundred students this fall, and he hopes it will grow over the next few years.
