      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

With assured style that's at times reminiscent of the best '90s nail-biting thrillers, Fair Play juxtaposes premarital disharmony with greed and gender politics in the cutthroat finance world.

Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Initially it works, and then it devolves into something so extreme that it becomes borderline silly. Oct 21, 2023 Full Review Brent Simon AV Club A film with a distinctive personality and an eagerness to dig around in the real-world sandbox and ask questions for which it knows there is no single, pat set of answers. Fair Play never stops making moves, which makes even its missteps feel refreshing. Rated: B Oct 15, 2023 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday It's one of the more incisive and powerfully made movies about relationship dynamics in a good long while. Rated: 4/4 Oct 13, 2023 Full Review Jorge Rivera Rubio QiiBO And old-school suspense thriller...You won't believe the ending. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review CJ Sheu The News Lens International Effective sound design and solid acting anchor an overdetermined and melodramatic plot. Jan 3, 2024 Full Review Valentina Morillo El Español (Spain) In his debut feature, Dumont demonstrates a great narrative pulse, crafting a thriller that works like a pressure cooker, with a payoff that is as inevitable as it is surprising. Roy J Now this satisfied my fix for an original thriller. Loved every minute of it. Thrilling and entertaining. Ladies, confirm your man isn't a closeted incel before you say yes. Phoebe Dynevor is an actress to look out for. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/04/23 Full Review Ghederick Eshmont Despite periodically succumbing to heavy handed, contrived gender politics, Chloe Domont’s control over the story is unrelenting & brilliant. A hallmark film for the rise of the working professional Millennial. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Ally Moore J Interesting premise to get into but the ending could have been better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Frankie C I'm still trying to work out how this film is classed as an erotic thriller when it was neither erotic or thrilling (**** the **** out of me being the least erotic line I've ever heard). The acting was very good, however the plot/story very thin. The two main characters' behaviour developed in ways that seemed unlikely, and anyone who's been to a wedding/large party knows that you wouldnt be able to carry on like that in the toilets without being interrupted - especially the second event - by friends and relatives. The idea for the story was good but it could have been a much better film. Bit daft. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Aliina H This was predictable, formulaic, and one-dimensional. The actors did the best they could. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Lee C Boring, with unlikeable characters. Not recommended.
