Hated: GG Allin & The Murder Junkies (1993), an insight into the most controversial figure in hardcore punk rock
This was the college project of director Todd Philips of Old School and Hangover fame.
somebody just watched nardwuar vs eric andre
Hahaha the Internet seems so small sometimes
Makes me feel pretty unoriginal most of the time honestly, free expression yet we all turnin into goobacks
Or Nardwuar vs Lil Uzi Vert
Truly? Good to see its still stirring up conversation!
Nardwuars voice is too grating to listen to :(
Doot doodle-oot doot...
Vancouver British Colombia Canada.
Hockey games...the thing the organist plays
Doot doot!
Or the Tom Segura and Redban podcast... they were talking about this too.
Tom Segura and Redban have a podcast? What's it called?
Classic Jeans ... i think ?? It is Tom Segura, his wife, Redban and usually another guest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFueLGeGKY8
I like his interviews but fucking hate the beginning when he goes Nardwuar three times.
Or read that recent interview with the Dillinger Escape Plan dude.
Omg I literally went down a rabbit hole of gg allin because i watched that nardwuar video. I'm so unoriginal.
[removed]
So, what you're saying, is that he has recycled the subject matter in his films from the very beginning.
Nah, just the turds.
You can probably tell from the thumbnail but this is pretty NSFW. I just clicked around to see how bad it was and it's pretty bad. GG Allin wasn't exactly known for his family friendly shows.
Ah shit I forgot to tag it. He eats his own shit at one point!
I wish I could read this exact comment in other threads more often.
Face it, this is your big moment. I'll make it official:
RELEVANT USERNAME!
He jacked off with his shit too.
Like for real? Not prop? I can't imagine a situation where I'd think that was a good idea or edgy. I'd probably try commit someone I knew to a mental ward if I cared for them if I saw that, actually I would for anyone.
That's disturbed behavior.
Yes, for real... He was a disgusting person.
I can assure you he could have qualified for a mental ward.
He wasnt being "edgy" in the sense you may think of it as. He was truly gnarly. Trust fund gutter punk kids doing heroin is "edgy". This guy was a scumfuck through and through. But probably a nice guy and pretty intelligent. There is a great interview with J Mascis where he was playing a show with him and he thought he was very mellow and nice all the while taking laxatives. Once he got on stage it was all madness. A real performer that didnt give two shits about what ANYONE thought about him.
didnt give two shits
Depended on the show and how much he'd eaten beforehand, I would imagine.
But he literally gave shits..
I'm not sure the type of people who don't care what others think go around eating shit and doing crazy stuff for attention.
People visit his gravestone to shit and pee on it...out of respect....
He was known for throwing his shit at his fans and occasionally physically assaulting them. GG was not a good person.
He was fucked in the head, but it was the ultimate punk protest. He fuckin hated the establishment and pretty much everyone. The drummer Dino was put in jail for exposing himself to a 4 year old girl.
Dee Dee Ramone only lasted a week in the band which should tell you something.
The drummer Dino was put in jail for exposing himself to a 4 year old girl.
Is that supposed to be some kind of accomplishment?
it was the ultimate punk protest.
No it wasn't. He was just a fuck up. That's all.

family friendly shows
His brother played with him. Seems family oriented to me.
I watched this when it came out and have watched it once or twice since. It's a pretty good documentary.
But man, what an uninteresting, narcissistic douche. GG was the most boring, "big baby is angwy!" kind of nihilist.
You think there is meaning inside the hole. But it's just a hole. There's no there, there.
But it's a great documentary.
Lol. Yeah. Well put.
I'm a recovering alcoholic, I spent my early twenties obsessed with the idea that I was a part of this deep crazy underbelly of society that had some kind of magical meaning that was constantly unfurling itself in front of me, and only for me, and nobody could see it, or understand it...
yeah I was full of shit.
Yeah, I have a pretty similar background, give or take a few details. It's funny that growing up and being honest with myself would have been indistinguishable from "selling out, MANNN!" to my younger self.
There are actually some really important principles that I think I've carried over or adapted from being a punk rock teen, but definitely not that kind of Baby Huey rage that GG embodied.
No, man, you just don't get it, man. Not wanting poop thrown at you is just a social construct, man. GG Allin is a rebel, man, he's undermining the social dogma. Free your mind from authoritarian constraints, cut your chest with razor blades.
Perfect
Counter culture is great when brings balance against and highlights the nonsense of society at large.
Counter culture is not great when it's just as nonsensical.
I was full of shit
So was GG Allin's crowd after a concert.
Yeah, dad was a narcissistic, abusive nutcase? I'll totally rage against society & him by being a narcissistic, abusive nutcase . I appreciate him in some ways but this doc is kind of a circle jerk
his brother merle slipped him acid in a mcdonalds burger when they were younger... gg lost his mind. you can see pictures and listen to him with the jabbers... he was sane. Then, he lost his mind.
the drug use only escalated the mental illness and he died of a heroin overdose in 93. punk rockers still glorify him.
my friend slug is in the opening of the movie, hes the punk with the big nose ring chugging a 40!
also its directed by todd phillips!
Honestly, lots of people took acid in our teens, etc. My impression (as someone who never knew him, mind you) is that it was probably just easier for him to become king of the idiots rather than deal with his problems.
Maybe mental illness played some part too. Idk.
That aspect of punk rock isn't interesting or transcendent. Being the poopoo-doodie blood man isn't profound.
In a parallel dimension, GG would have been David Koresh or Criss Angel. Skeet skeet. Big whoop.
Skeet skeet.
He would have been the third Ying Yang Twin?
His father originally named him "Jesus Christ Allin".
Do you think he may have had a tad unstable childhood?
edit: I've been seeing this post getting voted up and down consistently. Not sure why either.
it was probably just easier for him to become king of the idiots rather than deal with his problems.
If the people I know who are fans of his are any indication, I'd wager you're exactly right.
Being the poopoo-doodie blood man isn't profound.
Nice try, Chicken John.
Wait, hold on. Why Criss Angel?
That's true but read about his childhood. He was severely abused and neglected as a child which probably influenced who he became.
The scene at the end, GG is going down the street in his pants, then a 90s hipster couple with a kid are like "hey GG!" and he stops and briefly goes middleclass conversation before carrying on.
obviously it shows off camera he was pretty chilled out and would talk about art and stuff, Jello Biafria said he was a really nice guy off stage.
He's so unbelievably glorified.
He's really not though. There's might be a few small, rabid fans, but in general he's a buffoon wrapped in a leather jacket and not wearing pants.
This doc is more of a "look at this guy who fancies himself a punk rock singer!".
Inglorified? Maybe that's not a word.
It's a perfectly cromulent word.
This documentary introduced me to Carmelita by Warren Zevon, so it's not all bad.
GG was mentally challenged I guess. But the most disturbing thing is the people who were his fans.
So for me that was the interesting thing. On the one hand you have these obviously disturbed people like GG and Gacy, on the other had you had these real lowlifes who liked being pissed on.
I saw this link in this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9In4SB8DxE0 and it's quite entertaining. At one point the girl who does the interview says that she would have loved to see him on stage. Hell no. He would have tried to rape her, otherwise some fan of him would have tried to.
The scene where he hammers his front teeth out with the microphone, has always stuck with me as one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever seen someone do in my life.
As the Wikipedia article conveys, he had some serious psychological problems.
Allin was judged as having at least average intelligence, and was described as "courteous, cooperative and candid". The unnamed evaluator noted that Allin did not appear psychotic, and seemed comfortable with his unorthodox lifestyle. However, the evaluator asserted Allin was dependent on alcohol and had a mixed personality disorder with narcissistic, borderline and masochistic features.
He was in the moment, crazed raw anger fueled angst. Add lots of booze and drugs on top of that and you have GG
Seems like a stupid moment to be in.
And yet still fucking stupid.
REST IN PISS
the original try-hard edgelord
A literal shitlord.
In the late 80s and most of the 90s I was way into hardcore punk (The Exploited, The Accused, SOD, Circle Jerks, Agnostic Front, Dead Kennedys etc) but I always thought that GG was a bit of a douche. I was wrong. He was a HUGE douche.
He was just "the kid who eats worms for attention on the playground" on a larger and more disgusting scale. No merit to this fuckwit's bullshit.
This guy was a twat
I have the DVD and his last show is in the special features. I think it's more entertaining than hated. Probably on youtube but I'm not gonna bother looking it up.
I'm not gonna bother looking it up.
like a true punk rocker
His time and performance with the Murder Junkies was purposely bad, the beginning of lo-fi shit.
If you read GG's letters from jail, and his written interviews from jail; he lost his mind there and went from Kevin to full blown GG.
He thought rock n' roll should be bad- he and his brother Merle liked outlaw country, which were always recorded in some shit way.
So, add that in, with also being flat broke, and you get the shit that he did with the Murder Junkies.
His early stuff, The Jabbers, is pop-rock, and is actually pretty damn good.
The shit he did with Anti-Seen is good, too.
I don't believe his childhood actually affected him as much as people want to think in regards to his actions.
Interviews with his Ma and brother, says he was pretty normal, and then in high school he became a bit more punky, for no more a reason than most punks become punks.
Boredom, etc...
If you wanna dig deeper into his shit, look into his perversion.
He liked pee and tying up girls, and I think that's what drove much of his fecal enterprises during performances, take that with severe alcoholism, and you get something wild. His mind was a mush ball of an idea about what he believed a "dangerous" rock n' roll performance should be, and booze and dope, and strange pills, and violence he learned in prison, and you get this stream of conscious-fecal-I'm-gonna-destroy-fight-and-fuck type of stage antics.
GG was smart, I don't think he was a genius, or an innovator- but there was definitely a brain there. It was just corrupted by romantic ideation of outlaw-hood.
Right mind, wrong philosophy.
What a tiny baby dick... No wonder he is so angry
Opium shrinks your dick up
Can't get my mind off the micro-penis. I would understand if he had the old 'baby's arm holding an apple' going on and acting like that but geeze, a Chapstick is bigger.....
cocaine is a wonderful drug.
I think he was actually born with a micro penis, I don't think the coke did it to him.
hence the anger, i guess.
TIL If you can't sing or play an instrument just shit on the floor and eat it. Punk legend is born.
Get schwifty

username checks out
That's not true in this case. GG has some great albums.
Read the Wikipedia on him- specifically his funeral. Really good laugh material.
Fucking ew they left his corpse unwashed and bloated. I believe there is footage of the funeral on YouTube.
I have youtube searching to do now.
He was a fucking idiot, particularly when he was constantly promising to kill himself on stage on Halloween and shit.

A documentary about his brother would be great
Say what you will, and you will be right...
But THIS album is FANTASTIC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rmGhJXn1iA (GG Allin and the Jabbers)
Quite a lot of his music was class stuff, but that especially is A+
He did a 20-minute show that ended in a riot on his last tour here. I was a little too young to be at that club, but guys slightly older than me talked about it for years. A video of the show surfaced a few years ago and I could see why it left a lasting impression. He's an idiot but god damn that fucker commanded attention and was actually dangerous.
HOLY SHIT, dino sounds EXACTLY like jeff goldbum!
A mentally ill man, given a stage... this is the result.
Regardless of your opinion of GG this was a good documentary.
Good film. GG was a dick though. As a person he was nothing more than a spoiled brat drug addict who turned into a chimp and called it art. Actually he didn't call it that. Idiots called it art. The music sucked and he threw his own shit at people. Nuff said.
GG had a really good pop sense in the early days.. It's his later stuff that sounds like a train wreck.
You hate me and I hate you (Girls girls girls) gimme some head -- I think that's the name of the song
My wife actually jokes when I'm listening to GG about how often he .. sings .. "Outskirts of life" in his music. Really does seem like a recurring theme.
I've listened to GG off and on since probably 97 and consider myself a very moderate fan of his music. Even dropped $100 last year on a Aggronautix GG mask and had a kick ass bobble head until my daughter ripped his head off.
My perception I have now is he was a big time attention monger that was willing to do anything to be famous. Then he found hard drugs and it amplified his persona.
His persona was pretty violent post drugs. I had an old VHS from a site called punk videos (late 90s) where he was running around the bar he was performing at, pulling women's hair and trying to force them to go down on him for drink tickets while he performed.
Wow. Half the time nobody even replies to comments and when they do it's usually a picture of a dick drawn with hash tags.
This is the last thread I expected to see a well thought out and reasoned response.
Thanks! It was cool to wake up to this. I might check him out a bit further other than the one movie I saw about him.
I dunno man. Needle up my cock was a masterpiece.
In my notifications this caused me to pause and make me wonder wtf I commented on last night.
It might be the best out of context comment I've ever seen.
I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

Dang! As "terribly" filmed as this was, I watched some and loved what I watched! Don't know why I love asshole, tiny prick, acid dropping coke/meth/everything addicts... but thank you America!
Hey, he died on my 5th birthday. I'll put that in a box of fun facts about my bday.
JFK died on my 1st birthday. Ugh.
Timothy McVeigh was executed on my 9th birthday.
The Beatles played Ed Sullivan on my -30th birthday.
Timothy McVeigh
The bombing itself occurred on my 6th birthday
What the fuck is reddit's obsession with that worthless degenerate?
Oh man I'm gonna have to watch this. The Outlaw Scumfuck! Everybody hates me and I just don't fucking care.
That's a tiny tool
not even once
If you like gg allin then you'd probably like, Flux of pink Indians and the subhumans. Back in the late 90's punk died just an awful fucking death.
With pretty much any genre of music, if you think it died, you probably haven't dug deep enough to find the good stuff. Check out "the spits". They're new and awesome
Subhumans I do like actually...
I thought it was "GG Allin and the Toilet Rockers".
The dude had been in something like 15 bands over his career.
God this gets reposted often
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GG_Allin
Here is a fun fact originally named Jesus Christ Allin.......irony ?
I got the chance to see the Murder Junkies play around 1997 maybe 1998 and got to hang out with GG's brother Merle after the show. Merle seemed like a pretty laid back guy who more or less had his act together. I've always wondered just what the hell it was that flipped in GG that he wound up SO different from his brother.
his tiny little dick
I would have held GG as a punk hero had he offed himself on stage like he threatened. But he died like the bitch-ass addict he was.
Downvote all you want. GG was a pussy no talent heroin addict. I wanted to hod him in high regard. Died like the talentless douche he was. Zero people showed to his funeral. Ok. One person. A journalist.
Here is the funeral: https://youtu.be/mk39I_TAqIU
Didn't he have an open casket party for his FUNeral?
That's false. There's a YouTube video of his open casket funeral. A bunch of people were there just doing to him in death what he did tithe world I life. Fucking shit up and being assholes.
IIRC, he still had the shit on him that he rubbed all over himself at his last show. So if I understand correctly, he went to a fans apartment with a bunch of other people, did copious amounts of heroin, and died on the couch. My point is, that a bunch of fucking people sat around with him while he was covered in his own shit. Wtf?
He was a little pussy ass bitch. The only reason why I ever ran from him was because he had shit in his hands.
Thats fair enough haha. Were you actually at one of his shows?
GG Allin: poster boy for arrested development and acting out as such.
Maybe if they had a shred of muscial ability and talent, they wouldn't have had to rely on the antics of a mentally unstable front man smearing his own shit all over the place as a stage show to sell tickets. But I can see how it might have been 'edgy' when you're something like 12.
god, he's the biggest piece of shit ever. it would be one thing if his music was good, but no. everything about him sucks.
Ugh. Fuck GG Allin.
Fuck GG Allin.
Do you want hepatitis? Because that's how you get hepatitis.
Hepatitis is spread blood to blood not via sex. Ok. Depends on the s3x
[removed]
So why was he so despised? Summary or examples?
He was an attention seeking nutcase. He made (mostly) shitty music and got by entirely on being shocking. While on stage he'd cut himself, piss all over the place, shit on the floor, smear shit on himself, eat it, and even throw it at the crowd. He'd also throw punches at people in the crowd, which wasn't exactly unheard of, but most of the time if that happened, the person on the receiving end had it coming. With GG it was just about being a dick.
He was just human cancer that chose punk as a way to show the world that he had no boundaries or impulse control.
Eric Andre is like a comedy G.G. Allin with his moral compass pointed in a better direction.
eric has so much more talent than this dude could ever dream of having. plus eric doesn't run around violently assaulting people like GG did. eric at least has a purpose, and a lot of it is satire. there's no satire with gg allin, just malignant narcissism and a general inability to give a fuck about other people
EDIT grammar
There is a bit in this documentary where he does a bit at a college I believe and some woman asks why he hasn't killed himself already, or something to that effect. He says say that to my face and she comes up and says it and he end up roughing her up a bit calling her a bitch and everything else. He also from what I've seen also fights his fans at shows. I get it. Punk rock. But if you notice it's always someone smaller than him I'd love to see a bit of him going up to someone bigger than him.
fuck this guy
never heard of him ever, looks like a psychotic scumbag trash
GG Allin was a subhuman piece of shit, I wish he died sooner
Craziest person in the whole doc is the fucking kid with the hat they keep interviewing. That last interview... Like wtf?
Are.....are we just going to ignore the picture of the dude sucking his baby dick with a smile on his face??...... I'm going to shower with bleach and a wire brush to wash all this self regret and shame off of me..
This is a great film. Also, good music, too.
Wasn't this the guy that threw shit on people at the concert in the thumbnail?
literally watched this 2 days ago. gg was a crazy assed dude man
I went to college with a dude who was in his band, the guy's name was Dennis something or other.. he was fuckin nuts and the last i heard he had killed himself... that scene was waaayyyy scary
