This release finds Ivan grooving on some great tunes. There's no pop single like "Just another girl", but it's a good complete release with some soulful singing, solid playing and classic Ivan. Don't get too excited as the CD is more mellow than you'd think, but tracks like Ghetto Street stick with you like the sound of Professor Longhair piano riffs... Improve your CD collection and add this one to it. It'll stay in the player longer than you think.

Aaronの息子、アイヴァンの2004発売の4作目。実は2002年発売の3作目のタイトルとジャケを変えただけのアルバムです。契約かなんかの問題なのでしょう、どちらか一枚持っていれば問題ないです。
とにかく豪華なアルバムで父AaronやLeo Nocentelliは当たり前にしてもGeorge Duke、Keith Richards、Michael Brecker、Bonnie Raitt、Bobby Womack等がサポートしている。しかし彼らベテラン勢に食われることなく中心に屹立するアイヴァンの将来は期待大だ。
70年代ニューソウルを中心としてHipHopやP-Funk風味を添加しているのはとても今風。メインストリームのアルバムとして若者のドライヴデートのBGMになっていても全く違和感のない音だ。いい音を作るのなら伝統にこだわらないという部分は父Aaronの姿勢にとても近いものを感じるが、声の方は叔父Cyrilにとても似ている。そしてFunknessもCyrilに近い。
実に気持ちよく楽しく問題のないアルバムなのだが、欲を言えば手堅すぎ。JossieのMeters→RepriseのMeters→Nevilles→FunkyMetersとＮＯファンクの進化を牽引してきた血筋だからこそ、Ivanに21世紀のＮＯファンクの方向性を見たいと思ってしまう。欲張りすぎか？
