I love the community and academic is rigorous/advanced compared to other public colleges in New York. However they love to hold students from graduating. It is incredibly hard to graduate on time even if you work hard. The professors in math, history and science departments are horrendous. There is a lot of power play and power abuse that goes on. The students eventually learn to through it. (Apparently survival of the fittest is a thing outside the survivor show.) If you want to get a better degree get ready to be extra miserable and pay with your sanity, extra time with the nice spice level of tuition payments.
Additionally, there are halal and kosher options here but are very limited. The Benny food court isn’t good but enough to survive by. Safety has gone downnnnnn soooo much to the point that I will put my life in the hands of zombies at an apocalypse and it isn’t getting better anytime soon. The problem is 80% of the staff not the students or the community. Thank you.

As a freshman, it is very difficult to change from high-school to college and at times it can be stressful however I’m learning a lot from being here and meeting new people from around the city or elsewhere. The professors I’ve had so far are very nice but it does depend on which class you attend. There is also a sense of community here but it’s your job to find your place on campus. I really like the diversity here as I never had that in my middle school and highschool years. One thing I would like to change is the overall safety. Sometimes I don’t feel safe taking public transportation back home (I live in Brooklyn which is an hour and 45ish minutes away) and it does help that I am below average height (5’3f). Regardless, I don’t think I would be happy at any other university so I’m glad I picked CCNY.
City College made sure to connect students to the right resources at the appropriate times. Asking an department a question either led to an answer or a transfer. I found myself with a lot of questions regarding my financial aid that was through the state. Thanks to those working in financial aid, they were able to redirect me to the coordinator of my grants which helped me finish paying off my last few semesters at City College.
One thing I would like to see a change in is the bored members of the Athletics Department who do not take a lot of student led suggestions in fear of change. There should be no fear in change and ideas should be discussed not dismissed. Suggestions do not need to be implemented however a discussion with students on why a suggestion may not work would lead to better communication, better suggestions and a build in the athletics morale.
