‘Trying’ Trailer: Apple’s Family Drama With Rafe Spall Returns For A Fourth Season On May 22

Some shows are big cultural hits and juggernauts, and some quietly go on season after season; maybe not a huge critical giant, but there are enough ardent fans to justify their existence. And that’s probably where Apple TV+’sTrying,” a heartwarming British comedy television series created by Andy Wolton (“The Amazing World of Gumball”), lands; it has its fans, and it keeps successfully chugging along, though to be fair, it does have its U.K. acclaim.

After three hit seasons, “Trying,” starring BAFTA Award-nominee Esther Smith and SAG Award-nominee Rafe Spall, is coming back for a fourth season, and today, Apple TV+ unveiled a new trailer. “Trying” will return for its eight-episode fourth season on Wednesday, May 22, on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through July 3.

The series follows Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall), a couple who want to become parents but struggle with conceiving a child. Season four is a bit of a game changer in that it jumps ahead six years, and the couple are adoptees and have built a family.

In addition to Smith and Spall, the ensemble cast is led by Sian Brooke, BAFTA Award winner Darren Boyd, and welcomes Scarlett Rayner and Cooper Turner in season four. Actors who have appeared on the series in the past include Ophelia Lovibond and Imelda Staunton.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In this exciting new season, we fast-forward six years, discovering that Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) are experienced adopters, having built a lovely little nuclear family enriched by an extraordinary support network. However, as their teenage daughter, Princess (Scarlett Rayner), starts to yearn for a connection with her birth mother, Nikki and Jason find themselves confronted with the ultimate test of their parenting skills.

“Trying” is created, written, and executive produced by Andy Wolton and executive produced by BAFTA Award nominee Josh Cole, Sam Pinnell, and Chris Sussman. The series is produced by BBC Studios. The trailer features the brand-new single from London-based pop star BEKA, titled ‘Forever.’ BEKA helms this season’s soundtrack with original songs set to debut in each episode. BEKA follows Maisie Peters and Bear’s Den, who wrote and performed the soundtracks for “Trying” season two and season three, respectively.

The first three seasons of “Trying” are now streaming globally on Apple TV+. Watch the new trailer below.
