Since I'm one of the few list makers to alphabetize their lists, it's possible I might have been the only person to notice and/or report it, so it might have been viewed as a fluke, perhaps caused by a particular browser not playing well with the Discogs website. However, I have encountered it with at least two different browser brands (Firefox and Brave). -

You're not the only one, and there've been threads about it in the past. It's something that usually happens when there's work being done in the background, and list indexing gets mucked up; the worst I've seen it was about 1 to 2 months ago, but it has happened periodically in my experience with discogs for years. I assume there's no work going on like that at the moment, because none of my lists are playing up.

I tend to keep my lists in some sort of intentional order, like alphabetical, however I have encountered the website randomly moving items out of order. I reported this issue last year on the DIscogs development forum, but didn't receive a response, nor did it seem to get fixed. Although lately, I have not encountered it as much as before.
Ι also do that. Especially for big lists (100s of items), it's almost impossible to keep it alphabetical, I was so frustrated the other day, that I gave up trying. I will try again at some point, I know that :) -

My Pyramid Covers list is well over 700 and I have at least one private list that is well over 400, and they tend to stay in (alphabetical) order for the most part. However, like I said in my previous post, every once in a while, I have found one or more that have been moved. Based on experiences I've had, one thing I've wondered is if moving list items using the "Move to index" tool instead of doing it manually (by dragging them), might somehow better stabilize their positions in the list. At least until the instability issue has been corrected by Discogs staff. -

Thanks Tim. Good to know that others have reported it as well. I can say that all through the 2010s, I never encountered it, and it wasn't perhaps until the past couple years that I've noticed it myself. So, if there is some concurrent website work being done to cause list instability, I would wonder what has changed on their end to cause it. -

Well, in a 800+ list, when adding new items they go to the bottom of the list, if let's say I want to move a newly added item to #35 I can't do it manually. More than 2-3 times I founds it's impossible to get it right, i.e. they go for instance to #39! And then I move it manually to #35 but when I refresh the page it's still out of place. That's why I gave up. -

This list = everything has a reference to pop culture, mythology, art,
are hommage / pastiche (reprise/redesign using the concept) of something known
* Like Ice Nine Kill using the album cover of NOFX "I heard they s*** Live" with pop culture horror icons
* David Bowie Ziggy Aladin Sane/Ziggy being used by Doctor Who in a comic book character.
* People using a style and making something new
* Artist covering something "cult". I'll try to anotate everything when possible !
NOT everything is for the artwork itself in this "pop cuture reference heavy" lst.

Oops, meant to send these to jetydo, for your Master list of Stock Covers list:
PASTICHES : artwork hommages to previous art/pop culture list by SynfonicMeadow
Admittedly, I do not understand why some things were included in this list, but, well, maybe you can figure it out.
Have lots of lists in the work and might make more "public"
https://www.discogs.com/lists/PASTICHES-artwork-hommages-to-previous-artpop-culture/1324551
I'll try to make a marker : [ POP CULTURE ] / [ IMAGE ] / [ REFERENCE ] to mention why an element is in the list for a quick browsing, so as to not have to read the description of the reason to understand. At a glance the code will help indentify which it is. I'll order it in "personal preference" order at some point for the 1st page, then order the rest in alphabetical + "reason of inclusion". Ex: [Cinema], [ Comics] , [ Image Pastiche ] , [Mythology] , [ Pop Culture ] , [ Reference ], etc
The Hades video game Soundtrack could get 3 reasons of inclusion, like Kevin Smith or Tarantino movie soundtracks, Rick & Morty, the TV show Community... stuff with meta content is a big theme in this discogs list I created. -

For the first item on your list, Voodoo Glow Skulls - Who Is, This Is?, the album title is a quote from Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke, if you want one more layer of pop culture reference.
Your list is a little similar to one I put together a couple of years ago, except it was strictly album covers that reference famous artworks, without just copying them completely:

That's why I gave up.
I noted such issues too, and in the worse cases, it was also causing the order of many other releases in the same list to change.
But I think I found the way around:
- First, this happens mostly when changing the order of items from a smartphone, so use your computer instead (let's note that I use the navigator Chrome to do so).
- Second, each time you move an item (either by dragging it, or by using the "move to index" function), then if you want to make any other change to any page of that same list, then you need to refresh that page first.
Here's a new bug that occured since about 3 or 4 weeks ago: some pics do not display in my lists anymore: instead, I just get a blank square (with the title of the release written inside), despite that very same pic is still displaying properly within the release page. But it just won't display within any list (indeed, I tried creating a new list and add the release, but it wouldn't display the image either). I mailed discogs staff about it, hope they'll fix that. Lately, a few of those broken images started displaying again within lists, but many still don't. -

Concerning my "crystals minerals & gems" list, you included it in your index of lists under the "objects & miscelanea" category. However, may I suggest to place it under the "science" category. Indeed this list is all about earth sciences (including mineralogy, gemology, palaeontology, geology, and mining geology, which are all part of earth sciences).
Actually, all my lists are dealing with earth sciences (which, as you can guess, I have a passion for). My "lava & volcanoes" list was meant as a volcanology related list, and my "black gold" list is obviously geology oriented too :-) -

this has been happening for me for years. i have a few lists that have thousands of items in them, so it's easiest to browse them with 250 items per page, might be that the system struggles to generate the 250 thumbnails. It takes a few refresh attempts to get them to pop up, even if doing forced reloads (Shift + F5 or CTRL + F5). Like many things on discogs, it's annoying. -

I know what your're talking about (often happens with large lists when displaying 250 items per page), but this was a different issue since the links were apparently completely broken and the images wouldn't pop up within the lists no matter how many times I would refresh the page (and the issue was only concerning some 15 specific releases). However, those broken images progressively started working again after a month and a half (not sure if my message to the discogs staff had anything to do with that since I never got any reply) -

First of all, thanks a lot all the parodies. What do you mean by adding names? In which list? -

What do you mean by adding names? In which list?
Excellent question - especially because I was grossly vague.
I just mean my own little list of people that I ping for tributes/parodies. It doesn't exist anywhere except for in my postings to this thread.
I am just guessing that either I've missed or dropped some names along the way or that there are other observers who would like to be pinged. Well, nobody likes being pinged, it's a cost of doing Discogs business. -

Ah, okay, thanks for the explanation. Sure, you can use the name. -

Just noticed that the discogs staff proceeded to an upgrade, lists can now be displayed 500 items per page (instead of 250). This could have been a good idea, unfortunately, things are now actually less practical since you cannot jump from say page 1 to 3 by a simple click, considering that pages are no longer numbered... -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post -phonolite- edited 2 months agoEspecially as the pages are no longer numbered in their url either. Which makes moving from one page to another or opening several pages simultaneously very laborious. Also, when a page crashes, you just won't be able to reload it as reloading the page will automatically take you back to page one.
I just sent a message to the discogs staff, let's hope they'll pay attention. -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post -phonolite- edited 2 months agoThe "previous page" and "next page" buttons (which replaced the numbering of pages) are not even working properly, yielding random results when navigating back and forth between pages.
One more issue: when you drag an item within a list, it will be moved to page one (so the only way to move an item if you're not on page one is to enter manually the numbered position in the list that you want it to) -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post -phonolite- edited 4 days agoBig day for me! I finally finished listening to each and every vinyl releases in both my mineral and volcano lists...which allowed me to implement tracks recommendations in a wide variety of musical genres.
As soon as this was done, I immediately saved my lists and, given the mess that discogs currently is, I'd recommend everyone to do the same (500 items per page, then for each page use ctrl+P to save page as a pdf file...and then you may also chose to merge all obtained pdf files into one single pdf file using acrobat or similar tool)
...just in case something even worse would ever happen to our beloved lists ;-) -

Good idea, thanks.
By the way, I never really thanked you well enough for recommending Time Released Sound to me. It's an incredible label, Colin Herrick is just plain super talented. It would be overwhelming to try to put all of their releases into my Hand-Decorated Covers list, so I'll just add the label page and a note. Again, thanks for that.
Weird. I just tried to open that list and I find that it has been deleted. That is seriously f-kked up. I submitted a request for help, but, well, we all know how that's been going lately. -

I just tried to open that list and I find that it has been deleted
Investigated the case since several other people are reporting their list to have "disappeared".
So, I could access your list titled "Packaging: Hand-Decorated Sleeves/Covers by soulchap" via google:
https://www.discogs.com/fr/lists/Covers-Hand-Decorated-Sleeves/473372?page=1
So, changing the page number in the above url will allow to access other pages (excepting page 2, but I'll talk about that later).
Next page / Previous page buttons do work properly, however any attempt to change the number of items displayed per page will get you an "Error 404. That list does not exist or may have been deleted."
Whenever you get the "Error 404" message, you're stuck with it whatever you do, until you erase your web browser data (cookies/cache).
Now, more about the mysterious page 2 case: whatever you try to access page 2 will get you the 404 error. I tried copying the url (with page=2) directly in the web browser. I also tried using the "next page" buttons starting from page 1, or the "previous page" buttons starting from page 3....
...there is no such thing as page 2. Are you sure your list actually ever had a page 2, maybe you had just been dreaming about it and you're now about to wake up? There is nothing wrong with your computer set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. We can fuck up your lists, bring these back, and then fuck these up again. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to...The Outer Discogs.
