I am apart of the AH Band and I am the Drumline captain for the Percussion section. I get taught a lot about leadership and I have become a very strong, confident, and independent leader. There is a lot of diversity in band and I really like it. I am also apart of the Varsity cheer team at my school and I love it. There isn't much diversity on the team though. The cost is very excessive to be on the team and its majority white. These are also the most time consuming activities at my school and my schedule is always full, with little time to myself. These two organizations are polar opposites with pros and cons but they have ultimately made me have good time management, be open minded, be a impactful leader, and adapt to different enviroments. However, I would like for the cheer team to be more diverse and not cost $3,000-$5,000 a year. I also love my AP Government class, and since I am planning to be a lawyer and go to law school, I'm glad to be doing well in that class.
It’s a great school but the community it’s definitely a members only club. There is a notable bias in many things and while this doesn’t affect things on the day-to-day side much but it can be see that certain decisions are made with certain people in mind. It’s a great school with good people, but it can be a little tricky finding honest people who judge you by who you are and your character as opposed to your family, your friends, or your financial status.
Overall, throughout the two years I have attended Alamo Heights high school, I have been faced with many different challenges. However, the schools amazing support system has made the past two years feel a little less heavy for me. High school can be a very scary environment for some kids, but the school does a very good job at taking care of all the students needs if they only have the courage to ask for help.
