City Councilman Antonio Reynoso, who has focused on quality of life issues as a representative of northern Brooklyn, was elected Brooklyn borough president on Tuesday.
Reynoso, 38, is set to step into the shoes of Eric Adams in the role, serving as a public face of the city’s most populous borough.
Reynoso won a competitive and sprawling Democratic primary, fending off Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon and City Councilman Robert Cornegy. Reynoso currently represents a swath of northern Brooklyn that includes parts of Bushwick and Williamsburg.
The city’s borough presidents hold largely ceremonial roles, but they promote their boroughs and wield a small slice of the city’s budget. Adams was the first Black Brooklyn borough president. Reynoso is the second.
