Bring John Stewart back to the forefront, and pairing him up with Hawkgirl? Getting strong JL/JLU vibes and I am here for it.
Only thing that weirds me out, are they not doing the glowing eye thing?
Forgot to mention that according to IGN, this comes out on July 26th, 2022.
EDIT:
Additional details here: https://www.comicsbeat.com/green-lantern-beware-my-power-voice-cast-release-details/
In Green Lantern: Beware My Power, recently discharged Marine sniper John Stewart is at a crossroads in his life, one which is only complicated by receiving an extraterrestrial ring which grants him the powers of the Green Lantern of Earth. Unfortunately, the ring doesn’t come with instructions – but it does come with baggage, like a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every Green Lantern in the universe. Now, with the aid of the light-hearted Green Arrow, Adam Strange and Hawkgirl, this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed.
SAG Award-winning actor Aldis Hodge (Black Adam, One Night in Miami, City on a Hill) takes the title role as John Stewart/Green Lantern, closely supported by Jimmi Simpson (Westworld, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Pachinko) as Green Arrow. The voice cast includes Ike Amadi (Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, Superman: Man of Tomorrow) as Martian Manhunter, Brian Bloom (The A-Team, Mass Effect) as Adam Strange, Jamie Gray Hyder (Law & Order: SVU, True Blood) as Hawkgirl, Mara Junot (Call of Duty franchise, Genshin Impact) as Lyssa Drak & Banth Dar, Jason J. Lewis (Justice League Action) as Ganthet & Captain Kantus, Keesha Sharp (Empire, Lethal Weapon) as Vixen, Simon Templeman (Uncharted franchise) as Sardath & Console Voice, Rick D. Wasserman (Batman: The Killing Joke) as Sinestro, Sunil Malhotra (Mortal Kombat 11, The Legend of Korra) as Power Ring and Rannian Commander, and additional voices provided by Nolan North (Young Justice, Rick and Morty, American Dad!).
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the PG-13 rated Green Lantern: Beware My Power is directed by Jeff Wamester (Justice Society: World War II) from a script co-written by John Semper (Static Shock, Fraggle Rock) and Ernie Altbacker (Justice League Dark: Apokolips War). Jim Krieg (Justice League vs. The Fatal Five) is producer, supervising producer is Butch Lukic (Batman: The Long Halloween), and Sam Register is Executive Producer.
This looks good, and I’ll probably like it when I watch it, but I have a few possible nitpicks.
While I’m glad that Hal isn’t just being ignored, I really hope that he isn’t actually dead. I don’t see why they can’t have one Lantern be the solo movie Lantern while the other is the Lantern on the Justice League. Or have the Green Lantern movies be buddy-cop movies with both Hal and John as stars.
I’m not a fan of John’s origin involving a crashing spaceship like Hal’s, especially since that no doubt still happened to Hal in this universe, or the fact that a Guardian gave him the ring after the destruction of Oa like with Kyle’s origin. However, all of these are things that won’t effect my enjoyment. But there is one possible major problem…
I’m a fan of Hawkman and Hawkgirl/woman’s reincarnated lovers thing. Please, please, please let the Thanagar stuff be a red herring. Please don’t let this be Shayera. I understand the JLU versions of these charters are popular, but after all of the sh%t that the Hawks have been through in the comics, don’t they deserve to be happy and together in some media?
This movie's set in the Tomorrowverse.
The second film in the Tomorrowverse, is Justice Society WWII. That movie's aboutEarth 2 and it has the reincarnated lovers thing.
It's likely Earth 1 will have the Thanagarian versions
Was Hal in the trailer? I just assumed he was completely gone.
I will miss him, but John is still cool.
Pretty sure they said “Hal Jordan and thousands of Thanagarians were killed”
Kind of an anticlimactic way to write out DCs main GL.
Guess he's not the main one anymore.
Honestly they’re better for it. I’m not the biggest fan of Hal personally, and I think characters like Guy have much more interesting dynamics with other characters. Hal’s more of a standard protagonist, and it could be interesting to examine how that bounces off of a world full of dramatic personalities but that’s not often explored.
looks really good
If they are using John as the main lantern then they should use a different villain than Sinestro I think.
Lots of other good lantern villains.
Its been clear for awhile than John will be the main Lantern for DC going forward, especially since Cyborg did not work at all.
I will miss Hal, but I guess it's time for him to take a break for a few years.
Cyborg has what to do with this? Don’t you mean he’s gonna be the main Green Lantern because HAL didn’t work out with that Green Lantern movie?
I was worried that they were gonna push it back since we barely heard anything about this earlier this year. Glad everything is still in play and even more happy John Stewart getting some shine
speaking of which, what the freak is going on with the series?
casting call for extras just went out for the show. So it looks like it may be filming in a few months.
