Presente! I saw her parents speak once; amazing people, just like their daughter. What a beautiful family.
Evergreen?
Madison, Wisconsin.

Lol, i know. I went there. we had mutual friends, met a couple of times. Her mom spoke at my graduation.

Gotcha, I was asking scartol if they had seen her mom speak at Evergreen (which is where I saw her).
Don't have time to watch the doc now, but she's the one the right calls "St. Pancake" right? Few things are more viscerally infuriating than that line of mockery.
*http://www.masada2000.org/RachelCorrie.html --- this site is fucking insane.
I'd never heard that name before. What. The. Fuck. Then they have the gall to call themselves "pro life" and talk about family values.
When I leave for school or work I can be relatively certain that there will not be a heavily armed soldier waiting halfway between Mud Bay and downtown Olympia at a checkpoint with the power to decide whether I can go about my business, and whether I can get home again when I’m done.
So, if I feel outrage at arriving and entering briefly and incompletely into the world in which these children exist, I wonder conversely about how it would be for them to arrive in my world.
They know that children in the United States don‚t usually have their parents shot and they know they sometimes get to see the ocean.
But once you have seen the ocean and lived in a silent place, where water is taken for granted and not stolen in the night by bulldozers, and once you have spent an evening when you haven't wondered if the walls of your home might suddenly fall inward waking you from your sleep, once you've met people who have never lost anyone, and once you have experienced the reality of a world that isn't surrounded by murderous towers, tanks, armed “settlements” and now a giant metal wall...
I wonder if you can forgive the world for all the years of your childhood spent existing—just existing—in resistance to the constant stranglehold of the world‚s fourth largest military—backed by the world’s only superpower—in it's attempt to erase you from your home.

More dead Rachels here

Yes, we know. Anyone who criticises Israel is a terrorist. We've heard it all before.
I don't believe that. People who say that "armed struggle" is a right, act as human shields for weapons smuggling tunnels, protect terrorists and meet with people who are about to blow themselves to bits in crowded pubs are not "peace activists".
The problem with the ISM is that they want to have it both ways. Aid the terrorists and then bleat about IDF violence.
I don't think they're technically terrorists, more like jihad groupies. Given that it's hard to have much sympathy for them if they get killed.
You don't believe that armed resistance to occupation is justified?
Armed resistance is such a nice romantic sounding phrase. The reality is much grimmer
Do you think this is justified? It's a bunch of civilians getting murdered. If you were an Israeli, do you think you'd consider it justified? What about the rockets fired daily by Hamas Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, places Israel has pulled ground troops out of.
Now you'll say that Gaza gets bombed by Israel and is under embargo. Well yeah, because they keep firing rockets.
The problem is that Hamas isn't going to be happy running Gaza. They want all of Israel and the West Bank too. Until that happens the rockets and suicide bombings will continue. And so will the Israeli air strikes on the people that do them.
Do you consider the IDF's "armed resistance" to people firing Grads and sending suicide bombers to be justified? I do. The people firing the Grads and doing the suicide bombings are not justified. The ISM feels exactly the opposite way.
What context justifies the demolition of someone's home? Are you seriously suggesting that the decades of terrorist attacks against Israel justify the arbitrary justification of house demolition?
Rachel Corrie wasn't kneeling down in front of suicide bombers. She wasn't defending a terrorist rocket team. She was trying to stop a continuous policy of ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories. The hard-liners in the Israeli government want to make life so unpleasant for the Palestinians that they leave, allowing the creation of Greater Israel. These extremists hold considerable sway in the countries political balance.
Yes, both sides have done bad things, we get that. However, if your response boils down to pointing out unsung Israeli victims then you will lose on the numbers game as for every one of them there are ten nameless and faceless Palestinians dead children.
No, she was defending the entrance to a tunnel used to smuggle weapons.
The point is that all the Rachels I mentioned were civilians who were deliberately targeted whilst not involved in military action. Corrie was killed by accident, and killed defending a bunch of terrorists. Or "armed resisters" or whatever the ISM's preferred euphemism is.
If Corrie didn't want to die, she should have stayed away from terrorists. In fact she reminds me of a joke. A bunch of journalists are talking to a US military spokesman in the Gulf War. He says that journalists not embedded with the US military are called "unilaterals". Someone asked him what journalists embedded with the Iraqis are called. He says "collateral", as in damage.
The other Rachels were just trying to live their lives.
[citation needed]
If you prove that then I'll instantly lose all sympathy for her. FWIW I personally believe it was an accident and the driver genuinely did not see or hear her.
But the same could be said for the ten times as many "collateral damage" from the Israeli response. Both these events are feeding each other in an ever growing cycle and I've long suspected that the extremists on both sides are fully aware of this and that it drives their actions. Both groups gain from escalated conflict; for the Israeli hardliners it provides support for the continued expansion of Israel's borders and for the Arab terrorists it drives more people into their ranks. Both of these groups are a minority in their own populations but they have considerable control over the politics.

She's in a trench, nowhere near a house. Why is there a trench? Because it was the entrance to a weapons smuggling tunnel.
Also the IDF footage makes it pretty clear the guy driving the bulldozer says "I think I hit someone!". Later on he mentions "him", i.e. he didn't know he'd hit a woman. It also makes it clear that the ISM have lied about pretty much everything about the driver being able to see her.
Also you can see that the ISM's photo of her standing between a bulldozer and house is shopped, and shopped badly. E.g. here
http://www.omdurman.org/ISM/
Fuck the ISM!
Rachel: An American that thought she could stop a Cat D9 Dozer with her face.
Truly an inspiration to all the OWS protestors that jumped in front of that Koch supporter's Lexus.
Kinda makes you sick.
sigh...depressing
Solidarity, forever.
Thanks for the upvotes, y'all. Rachel's tragic story and the true nature of the occupation need to be seen by as many humans as possible. We can still turn this around. Demand that your tax dollars stop funding the expansionist Apartheid state of Israel. They cannot get away with it without US funding, which means there is plenty of work to do here in the states if you support the ISM's mission.
Israel is a shithole.
Nah, It's pretty nice. They have done a pretty good job in actually spending our tax money on infrastructure. At least some of our USD is doing this...
Still don't understand how she was run over by a fucking bulldozer. Not like things exactly move fast. Was she trapped in cement or something like Kevin Kilne in A Fish Called Wanda?
She was killed by her own stupidity because she sat in front of an armored bulldozer (because palestinians were shooting at it) that later demolished a house that was confirmed to be used as a hiding place for munitions.
TL;DR: Stupid bitch gets turned into pancake!

I support the ISM with all of my being so I find your post incredibly misleading and offensive. Thanks for the propaganda post, bud.
How amusing that rather than refuting what he wrote, you just say it's "misleading and offensive" because you support the ISM.
Please share how it's misleading if you genuinely believe it to be so.
Edit: Four downvotes but no answer as to how it's misleading.
Shouldn't you be off playing chicken with a bulldozer to protect a weapons tunnel? I'm sure we'll hear what a martyr you were when you get pancaked.
Then again you might end up like this dude.

Or this one
http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2011/04/vittorio-was-not-first-ism-activist.html
Maybe you'll be less lucky and they'll saw your head off.
Either way, if you get murdered by Muslim terrorists, it's fair to say you're not going end up as famous as you get killed accidentally by Israeli security forces.
If I were you I'd chuck yourself under a bulldozer as quick as possible.

Yeah, it shows. Let me guess - you're an arts graduate?
Like I say, shouldn't you be booking your ticket to occupied territories? It's not like you're going to get a job in the US at the moment with a degree in Peace and Gender Studies or whatever you wasted your parents money on.
Make you sure you get killed by an Israeli otherwise no one will remember you, just like no one now remembers Akram Ibrahim Abu Sba.

Fuck you and this brainwashing bullshit you just posted.
Care to point to any specific claim I made and why it is false?

Israel believes Jerusalem is its capital and would be part of the Israeli state in any two state solution.
The Shebaa farms were captured from Syria, not Lebanon. Syria has cynically decided to say they are part of Lebanon from time to time to provide an excuse for Hezbollah to claim that Israel has not left.
As the US Government wisely pointed out
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shebaa_farms#US_position
But then I'm sure you knew both of these things.

Hateful and misguided leftist.

No I'm not mistaken and the title is correct. There is no debate that it was an IDF D9 Bulldozer. It was even the integral part of the IDF's defense. They said the armor on the specially built D9 blocked the driver's view.
Get real.
Israeli Defence Force.
