'I can t get enough from this album' --Cerys on 6 (Radio 6 Music)
'There's no question about this one, Kyle Eastwood's outstanding Time Pieces succeeds in delivering a measure of swing, swagger and grace in a musical package that's perfect for any time.' --All About Jazz
Unburdened, more or less, by the Son-of-Clint tag that dogged his early career, veteran double bassist Kyle Eastwood shows off some serious chops on this compelling set of covers and (mainly) originals. Two Sixties jazz standards, Herbie Hancock s Dolphin Dance and Horace Silver s Blowin the Blues Away, are performed with the hard-bopping lyricism they deserve; the spirit of Herbie, Horace, Art Blakey and other key influences are palpable throughout. A duet with English pianist Andrew McCormack on Letters from Iwo Jima, Eastwood s theme for his father s 2006 movie, feels stripped down, a bit too brief. It s while leading a quintet that includes saxophonist Brandon Allen, trumpeter Quentin Collins and the London-based Cuban drummer Ernesto Simpson that Eastwood really shines, soloing on electric, acoustic and fretless bass with swing and A-list swagger. --Evening Standard Jane Cornwell 05 May 2015
