Students, parents and staff at a high school in Alexandria are grappling with the aftermath of a school controversy involving a group of athletes on the baseball team.

“Our detectives are investigating allegations of sexual abuse and hazing at West Potomac High School. We are working with the commonwealth attorneys on the case,” said Officer Tara Gerhard of the Fairfax County Police Department.

When asked about the hazing incident, most athletes we spoke with said the school does not want them to comment. One student anonymously said that one player is known to have shut another player in a locker and then urinated on him.

The principal of West Potomac says the school conducted a thorough investigation. A Fairfax County Public School spokesperson tell us that Jim Sullivan, head coach of the baseball team, resigned after the incident.

Sullivan claims his resignation is unrelated to the hazing investigation and said in an email that he is leaving because of “a difference of opinion related to the direction of the baseball program.”

Students say they hope the school can move on from this incident, and that those involved learn the real damages and consequences of hazing.
