I initially ordered this on Amazon but I received a disc that did not work properly. It was so scratched up you'd think that the seller would have tested it first. Three tracks did not work. Anyway, I ended up going to the used record store and purchased a used copy. I wasn't in the mood to wait for another week or so only to find that it did not work. I wanted to listen to Adam Ant's greatest hits.
First of all, this album's quality is lacking. To be sure, it is not remastered. This is one of those albums that badly needs it. The sound quality is like a well worn cassette tape. Some tracks came out okay such as my favorites, Prince Charming, Desperate But Not Serious, Friend or Foe and Strip. The first half of this album sound pretty bad, actually.
Sound-wise, the songs lack bass. I know that in the eighties bass was lacking in a lot of recordings and treble took the forefront. It was just the style back then. If you listen to a lot of eighties records as I do, you will notice that there is a strong treble in the recording and bass is pushed to the back. Not all recording was that way. The Cars had bass in their recordings. But I notice that many other artists back then had their bass toned down.
What's great about this album is that there are 21 tracks. When I initially sought out an Adam Ant album I had heard it on Spotify and wanted to have it in my library. I was familiar with Goody Two Shoes from back in the day when I was in school. In the eighties Adam Ant was a big hit. With his strange getup and style. He had a style all his own. And his song, Goody Two Shoes harkened back to the old days. You could say that he was playing "old school". Now he IS old school.
Now, I am going to have to seek out a proper Adam Ant collection that does him justice. One that sound decent, audio-wise. I think that the Essential Adam Ant is one that I am going to look for next. If you are looking for a good Adam Ant collection, this ain't it, folks. But if you don't care as you'll just be playing it on a boombox, this will do just for the sheer number of hits.
