- Debbie SThe Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, UK29 contributionsTotally blown away by this place. Attention to detail on the outside like you wouldn’t believe. Inside just as amazing- awe inspiring I would say- so bright, light and spacious. Felt really uplifted. I visited first nearly 30 years ago- didn’t get to go inside- not sure you could then but it’s nearly finished now and is out of this world- a must see when in BarcelonaWritten 5 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gus WoltmannParis, France8 contributionsParque del Retiro in Madrid is a verdant oasis in the heart of the bustling city, and our recent family visit there was nothing short of magical. As we entered the park, we were greeted by the soothing sounds of chirping birds, the gentle rustle of leaves, and the distant laughter of children playing. It was a welcome escape from the urban hustle and bustle, and we couldn't wait to explore all that this enchanting park had to offer.
Our first stop was the iconic Crystal Palace, a stunning glass structure nestled amidst lush greenery. Walking through its grand arches, we were mesmerized by the play of light and shadow cast by the sun streaming through the glass. Inside, we discovered a temporary art exhibition, adding an extra layer of beauty to an already picturesque setting.
Next, we made our way to the serene Retiro Pond, where we rented a rowboat for a leisurely paddle around the tranquil waters. Surrounded by majestic trees and elegant sculptures, we felt like characters in a storybook, soaking in the serenity of our surroundings.
Our journey continued as we wandered along the park's winding paths, stumbling upon hidden gems at every turn. From meticulously manicured gardens to charming cafes tucked away in secluded corners, Parque del Retiro offered a delightful surprise at every step.
One of the highlights of our visit was the impressive Monument to Alfonso XII, a magnificent structure overlooking a vast, sun-dappled plaza. As we climbed the steps to the monument's base, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the park, stretching out before us like a lush green carpet.
As the day drew to a close, we found the perfect spot to relax and unwind—a cozy picnic area shaded by towering trees. Sitting together on a patchwork blanket, we savored a delicious spread of local delicacies while sharing stories and laughter. It was a moment of pure joy and connection, made even sweeter by the idyllic surroundings.
In the end, our family day at Parque del Retiro was nothing short of magical. From its breathtaking beauty to its serene ambiance, every aspect of the park captivated our hearts and minds. It was a day we'll cherish forever—a perfect blend of nature, culture, and quality time spent together as a family.Written 4 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You get in quickly, get the tablet computer with augmented reality, the audio guides, see some private spaces, plus get an additional rooftop area to visit. There are huge crowds, but they get worse as the day goes on.
No matter how much advance research you may have done on Gaudi's work, seeing this building in person takes you way past your expectations. You could literally take dozens of photographs here.Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And that there maybe a concert that will close the main square to the public. Don’t forget to save time to walk the peaceful gardens.Written 30 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
