With this spectacular introduction to traditional Oaxacan food, we found ourselves delighting in a whole range of new flavors: heat that stays on the tongue without overwhelming the taste, the sweet-savory flavor of cactus as a vegetable, strawberries blended into a cold refreshing drink. The meal starts downstairs with fresh tortillas and their sauces. Then one moves upstairs to the rooftop for the main courses and a delightful view of the city. Please ignore the chatbots and their ignorant negative reviews because this is a restaurant not to be missed.

Very nice reception when you arrive. You are seated in a beautiful area and given a fresh tortilla and salsa while you wait for your table. Once you order and begin eating the experience goes down hill from then. We ordered the Tostadas y Tlayudas and they both lacked flavor. We asked for a salsa to spice it up but still to no avail. Not worth the price and the drinks were so small for the price as well. Beautiful view but that’s basically what you are paying for not for the food.

We strolled in on a whim and had a lovely dinner. We weren't terribly hungry so we ordered a few of the smaller plates to share. We are often more impressed with appetizers than entrees anyway. First, this is a traditional Mexican restaurant. Actually, it's pre-hispanic. No, the menu is not in English, you are in Mexico, and they are not obligated to accommodate US Americans. The waiter will happily explain the ingredients to you, if you ask. We had lots of questions, and they were happy to explain. No, you can't have "hot chocolate" with milk. Again, you are in Mexico. Look up atole. Embrace the culture. If you want an Americanized experience, go to Origen. Second, the food was delicious. I love the salsa made to taste at the table. We had a delicious bean salad, 8 beans? 12? I don't remember. Sounds boring, but it was so good. We had a squash salad as well, and a turkey stuffed pepper tamal situation. I don't remember what these dishes were called, but they were presented beautifully and very tasty. The drinks were unique and delicious as well. No one gave us a hard time for not ordering proper entrees during dinner hours. Servers were around when we needed them and always made sure to fill our water glasses. Overall it was great and we wished we had come more hungry. Finally, go downstairs to Masea and try an atole one evening. Read about them. We stopped in on a different evening. Was a nice beverage before heading back to our hotel for the night.

A poor experience with service and food. While the Tetelas and Tyluda was good, the salad Tibia was nothing but leaves with zero seasoning, and the four mole dishes (turkey, shrimp cake, beef rib, and quail) were lackluster. The shrimp cake mole was fishy - as if they used old shrimp. The beef rib was tough, not cooked long enough to make it tender. The turkey leg was just a boiled leg with mole negro - with gummy skin. All dishes were cold when they arrived which didn’t help. And while the terrace was 2/3 empty, service was spotty. We had to flag them down multiple times to refill water, etc. And it took them 15 minutes to arrive with the check. Overall, a poor experience. We had much better meals elsewhere in Oaxaca.

I stopped in the first floor Atolier for an iced Americano. They did not and do not have milk to put in coffee because it is “part of the concept”. Really? it’s part of the concept to be so pretentious and disallow a huge percentage of coffee drinkers? When I said I could not drink it without milk, they charged me 55 pesos anyway. Please. My last visit there.

We went here with a reservation and got a beautiful table with a great view of the city at night. Our food and experience with the service was great. We enjoyed every minute and found the staff to be attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We even got to pick the ingredients for the salsa that was made fresh for us at our table. Prices were fair for the items we chose and we were grateful that the restaurant accepts credit cards as we have found many spots in Oaxaca accept cash only.

I have eaten in many great restaurants in my life. This restaurant is pretentious, but not good. Let me count the ways: 1) On a freezing morning, we asked if we could eat downstairs rather than on the open air terrace--the answer is "no." They have seating downstairs, but it is just for waiting for upstairs tables. 2) They serve "free" coffee, but it is pre-sweetened watered down coffee that is supposedly harkening to some kind of traditional coffee. All other coffees are about $5.00 U.S., with no refills. They serve "free" hot chocolate, but with no milk. In other words, they do not in any way cater to what people actually want. 3) The menu has no English translation. For $25-$35 per breakfast dish, they could have an English language version. I do speak Spanish. The Spanish names had no descriptions and some dishes were quite unusual--they should have had descriptors. 4) I ordered a Cappuccino. It was tiny. And cold. Very tasty though. 5) They are completely unwilling to be flexible with the menu. One person in our party asked for "huevos al comal" which is eggs cooked on a comal (hot stone). They refused to scramble them. Instead, they came out as hard fried eggs. It took 5 minutes for them to bring the requested salt to the table (read COLD overly hard eggs). 6) Two of our dishes came with tortillas on the side. EXACTLY ONE TORTILLA PER PERSON. 7) The beans had absolutely no flavor at all. Sometimes restaurants think that if they jack up the prices and are inflexible, this makes them elite. I think it makes them unpleasant. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all!

We had a lovely rooftop lunch here. The English menu gave great explanations of the ingredients and dishes. There were nice touches like salsa made at the table, where you could choose your own ingredients, as well as an atole (traditional corn drink) to try before eating. We got a variety of foods and especially enjoyed the tetelas, tacos chicharrón and the salad. We all had different kinds of mole as mains, and enjoyed them. We also shared three different chocolate desserts, which were to die for.

We were not lucky on our first visit, both my wife and I got sick. We had the Mole verde with fish, the pork tacos, and one of the salads (can't remember the name). The tacos were OK/good, nothing special. We both didn't love the mole. My wife ate most of it and she's the one that ended up feeling worse. The salad was just OK as well. The drinks were great and the staff was amazing, one of the servers made you a tailored sauce with ingredients of your choosing. Too bad that the food was not great.

We went for a second time to this restaurant, and we were greeted by its director Jose Luis, who provided us with a tour of the Chef's dining room for private events, which was sensational. We decided to taste all desserts on the menu, and we loved them all. We were overwhelmed by the unique flavors of the mil hojas, suspiro and nieve de cacao. Kudos to the entire team!

We were seated promptly at 6 pm. The rooftop was great with a beautiful view. We were disappointed at the menu as it contained a few dishes. I ordered the pork tacos and my husband the black bean soup. Both of our dishes were bland and lack flavor. We couldn't eat our food. I really don't understand the hype for this restaurant. Save your money, eat somewhere else.

This has a beautiful terrace ..perfect on a warm night. They start you off with salsa made table side!! They allow you to personalize it based on your tastes and how spicy you'd like it. Then it's on to the main course!! They yellow pipian mole with duck is one of the best. Service is excellent. Just wish I could have tried more items on menu. It all looked delicious! You will not be disappointed!!

The bakery and atoleria look like different shops but they operate as one. Choose your pastry and then go across the hall and choose your atole, coffee or other beverage and then have a seat. Service is excellent; baked goods and beverages are delicious. We arrived after 9 a.m. and there were very few customers; pleasant ambiance.
