Man pleads not guilty in drunk driving incident that killed 3 Nicholls students
The Lafourche Parish Grand Jury formally indicted 39-year-old Joey Paul Clement on three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of driving while intoxicated.
This was reportedly Clement's fourth offense for driving while intoxicated.
Clement is accused of killing three Nicholls students, Lily Dufrene, Hali Coss, and Michaila Bowling, in a vehicle crash Nov. 20, 2021, in Lafourche Parish.
The women were on their way to a birthday dinner when the crash occurred.
Clement is accused of being impaired at the time of the accident and entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment Jan. 14.
Clement's next appearance is scheduled for April 12.
Vehicular homicide carries a potential punishment of between five and thirty years in prison. Fourth offense driving while intoxicated provides a potential term of incarceration of not less than ten nor more than thirty years.
