Dot Allison’s second album, <I>We Are Science</I>, is much icier than her debut, <I>Afterglow</I>, in no doubt aided by the electro vibes from Two Lone Swordsmen and Beaumont Hannant that permeate the album. “We’re Only Science” is cool and shiny, like an ice cap, while “Performance” puts her ethereal vocals over a glacial landscape. “Make It Happen” and “Strung Out” add more of a rock element to the proceedings, the latter especially. “Lover” sounds like a country-western in outer space. Lovely and dreamy.

'We are Science' is simply a chillingly beautiful record - if you're into styles, and electronics are happy forward to upgrading pop diversities in the wake of groups like Lemon Jelly, Campag Velocet, Echoboy, Appliance, Stereolab, Goldfrapp, Client or Add N to (X) to name a few, this should form part to your personal collection. Despite the album's highlights that point out to the dance floor with two obscure remixes, such as 'Substance', 'We Are Science' or 'I Think I Love You', the album itself interferes with rock and still gets away with it's own brand of timeless beat that won't just stand as 'this year's model'. Recommended.
