Lamar High School Reviews
Rating 3.66 out of 5 566 reviews
The academics here are based solely on what teacher for what class you take. Some teachers are incredible such as the AP World History teacher, who was strict and tough, but made the subject interesting and motivated me to do the best I could. Some teachers don't teach and overwhelm you with work with little instruction, but I won't be specific to be anonymous. The safety of Lamar is terrible, we constantly have gun threats and had a shooting last year. Fights also happen frequently. I hope this changes in the future. There are many opportunities for sports and extracurriculars here. I would rate this school a 6/10 for academics, 3/10 for safety, 8/10 for extracurriculars.
Overall I would say that my experience was good. I had wonderful teachers for the most part, and I played volleyball with wonderful girls and coaches. Sports are a big part of the school atmosphere. The worst part about my experience was the shooting in March of 2023, but it was before school started, so there were few students on campus at the time.
Throughout my four years, I found that people of all backgrounds, interests, and goals had the opportunity to express and involve themselves in the school community. The best parts of school have been the social interactions between students and teachers. I’ve seen the teachers devote themselves to helping all students and creating an inviting environment to ensure maximum learning. However, I feel there was a lack of school culture which made it difficult to create a unified identity and values which resulted in a disregard for school safety causing traumatic events and even the deaths of peers. I’d like to see an amplification of these great teachers in our school’s community to allow more students the ability and motivation to succeed past high school.
