Neighborhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

The bustling cityscape below unfolds before your eyes, providing a mesmerizing spectacle. With comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere, it's an ideal spot to unwind and soak in the vibrant energy of Tokyo's iconic intersection for hours on end.Visited July 2023Written July 15, 2023
- Jacqui FLondon, United Kingdom310 contributionsIncredible view from the 18th tallest structure in JapanWe enjoyed visiting Shibuya Sky. Entry for the observation deck costs 2200 Yen for Adults and 1700 Yen for high school-aged children and you must book in advance – at least in the summer when we went. The view is fantastic, and you get to watch ant-sized people cross the Shibuya Scramble Crossing below. There is a distinct lack of shade on the deck, perhaps to discourage people from staying for long, and staff don’t love it if you come inside for a while and then go out again. If you say you are going back to the lockers to get something that seems to work, as they quickly lose track of you and you can go back up again. On a clear day, if you face WSW and squint, you might see Mount Fuji. Once you’ve had your fill of the view there is a gift shop and a café to visit.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 15, 2023
- Natalia TSingapore, Singapore2,592 contributionsLovely views of TokyoShibuya Sky is located at the top of Shibuya Scramble Square. You take a lift from the 14th floor, all the way to the top. The observation deck offers a 360-degree view from 229 meters above Shibuya. It's a great way to see the skyline and various parts of Tokyo.Visited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 19, 2023
- adrian h3 contributionsDon’t miss it.Amazing experience. It was closed at first due to bad weather but after some time in the shop and inside area it opened. Lots left early before it opened - so I guess the tip is to be patient! Well worth putting on your trip agenda.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 30, 2023
- Isabella SSydney, Australia120 contributionsA must do!A must do while you are in Tokyo! Be sure to book tickets in advanced as it can sell out quickly. Elevator is quick and the staff ensure everyone makes their way up quickly and efficiently. On the top, there a 360degree view of the city, we were blessed with great weather!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 14, 2023
- Sue SKingston, Canada372 contributionsIncredible views of Tokyo! This newish attraction was definitely worth the hype BUT you absolutely have to book in advance- one month to be exact, especially if you want sunset views. Book about 1 to 1.5 hours prior to sunset. You enter at the 14th floor to access the elevator that takes you to the top. Being outdoors with unobstructed 360 views was such a cool experience. It felt like you could touch the planes flying overhead. When an epic rainstorm blew through, we all rushed to the lower indoor observation deck and watched the storm while the neon lights lit up the city. Even if you can't go outdoors , the indoor observation deck was still very impressive and there was a decent gift shop to boot! Definitely worth the hype!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 20, 2023
- pyt_go_girlCanadian Rockies, Canada168 contributionsBest night view in townLoved it. It was a bit hard to find. It was easy enough to follow Google Maps but once you leave the train station some of the signs to the elevator for Sky was confusing. Once you leave the train station, just walk around the escalators and go behind and you should see the line of people waiting for the elevators to the sky. We went in the evening and in my opinion, it's better than going during the day. We took some good pictures and there were a few lines of people to take pictures on the corner locations. There is also a line up to have a staff photographer take your picture in a designated area where the ground is lighted which will light up your face. You can line up and have your picture taken but no obligation to buy any photos. When you're done, go down to the escalators and there is an indoor observatory. Spend some time here. O think this is better option than Tokyo Skytree since there's lots more to do here and you can stay at the Scramble Bldg and have dinner. many dinner options!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023

Just next to Shibuya station , you have to go at the exact time as your ticket if you book online as I did , we went half hour early and had to wait at Starbucks 3 storeys below . Even with reservations which I booked a month in advance on their website, and being on time, we still queued which meant we missed the sunset, but still got to experience Shibuya at night. It really is stunning and lots of photo opportunities, but you'd need a quality camera to capture the purity. The Magnet building used to offer better views than this one. However, the views are also nice and enjoyable.
The only problem is that crítica information in English is non-existent, and attendant give you instructions in Japanese (which I understand cause I speak it but no one would if they couldn't speak it).
The place was overcrowded, which meant we had to queue for about 25 minutes just to get out! There are two elevators to go up and down, and the ticket is on the pricey side considering the hassle it is.
If you want to score a nice picture of the scramble crossing, the best location is from inside the building on the "first floor" of the observation deck. You will end up walking past when you try to exit the area, as the line is huge.
Beware that lockers require a ¥100 coin to operate; this information is in English but posted where no one can actually see it.
If you want stunning views of Tokyo in general, go to the World Trade Center building near Hamamatsucho (due to be demolished in 2020).

Shibuya Sky is one of the most popular post-COVID tourist attractions in Tokyo. Its location in central Shibuya is very convenient. Admission tickets (Klook Special Promotion @ JPY 1,800/adult) for specific time slots can easily be purchased online in advance; the ones around sunset hours are usually sold-out first. Remember to wear a windbreaker, as it gets quite windy in the rooftop. Travel light, because visitors are only allowed to bring their phones and wallets up to the observation deck; everything else must be kept in the lockers (JPY 100/locker). Enjoy the view and take lots of photos! The souvenir shop has a good collection of gifts including Hachiko related goodies. However, the Paradise Lounge which serves snacks and cocktails is not always open. Please note that selected shops at the Shibuya Scramble Square hand out small gifts and sometimes discounts upon presentation of the Shibuya Sky tickets.

Spacious observatory space and a nice roof bar are excellent for soaking in the expansive view of Tokyo city. Entry to Shibuya Sky is scheduled every 20-minute block. I highly recommend checking the sunset timing and matching the entry just before the sunset, so you get to capture the sun setting over the city and then awe at the night lights of the city.

Shibuya Sky is a place that I think only became popular on social media during the pandemic and so it was a natural place to put on our itinerary when we came to visit Tokyo. It is 230 meters tall located in Shibuya and offers spectacular 360 degree views of Tokyo and its surrounds. Unfortunately it was cloudy with some light drizzle so I missed out on looking at the landmark I was most looking forward to see which was Mount Fuji.
Immediately below the outdoor observation deck is an indoor observation deck. This indoor observation deck as a bar but you have to pre-book tickets to be able to sit there as well as a souvenir shop. There is an abstract exhibit thing about the flow of time which you can touch but somehow I don't really get it. There is also a place to park baby strollers and locker rooms to put your items in.
The reviews making mention of booking tickets ahead of time are very true. When we arrived to show our prebooked tickets, there were a group who had just shown up without pre-booking tickets and was told that the non-prebooked tickets had run out and this was 2.30 in the afternoon.
And while the weather is not the responsibility of Shibuya Sky, I would suggest trying to come here on a sunny day.

Got to Shibuya Station and queued in a long line waiting under strong sun to take the lift to the Shibuya Sky excitedly. After checked in at 14 floor, we took another lift to 47th-48th floor. The outdoor observation was smaller than imagined with security guards in every corners, that made us feel uncomfortably. Worse than that, all the visitors were required to use the observation deck operator's photographer and pay a fee of JPY1,500 pp for a photo at the hottest photo spot. Staff could neither speak English nor answer any question. Very disappointed! Would recommend the Skytree (for a fee) or the Tokyo Metropolitan Building for a better view and better experience!

Entrance is on the ground floor of Shibuya Scramble Square mall and you just need to present your qr code at the entrance if tickets were purchased in advance. Indoor gallery is good as a rainy day activity and can even see Mount Fuji on a clear day. Upper outdoor gallery can get crowded at sundown and prime corners for photo taking will have a queue forming.

I decided to go up so I could get my bearings and also look down on the scramble crossing.
Was it really worth 2k yen?, (that’s about £15 in sterling), no is the answer.
The views are good, but I suppose tall buildings cost a lot to make and you have to get the money back somehow.
It was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Also would help to have a 100 coin, as lockers at top for bags, as you can’t take them outside.

The latest sightseeing spot in Tokyo. You have to book tix a lot in advance if you wanna see day lights till sunset. I could only book tix for 6:15pm coz all the tix between 3:30 to 6pm were booked. Expected a lot of people there but everything was organized. No pushing nor long waiting to get up. (You do need to wait to take pix at the popular corners.) The glass wall and platform was kinda cool. I ended up spending 2 hours just to check every angle of Tokyo.

This is the best view of Tokyo, hands down. You can see all of Tokyo and even Mt. Fuji on a clear day. The best time to visit is before sunset so you can watch the Tokyo night sky transition from a beautiful orange into the cool glow of night. A lot of people will say that Tokyo Skytree has a better view, but I disagree. Skytree is actually too high up, and Shibuya Sky offers that perfect balance of height and scope while still being able to see things in detail.
You can order tickets in advance online, or walk up to a counter. Just know that you might not be able to get the time slot you want if you don't order ahead.

You need to buy online well in advance but better not to waste your money at all. Stay away from it.
Tickets are sold out online, but would they still be selling tickets indoors at the booth?

I don’t think they reserve tix on site. If sold out online the they are sold out.

Hi. Can you go back up to the roof after going down to the indoor observatory or is it one-way traffic? If for example, it gets too cold and you want to lounge and warm yourself up indoors while waiting for sunset, can you go back up and down? Thanks.

Yes,I believe the only thing they don't allow is flash photography(if at night) AND backpacks or any type of large bag...They have lockers for you to store these items in before entering the observation deck..
