I am about to have my 2nd child graduate from AHS. I have been very thankful for the resources available for all levels of learning. Athletics and extra curricular coaches/instructors have set up a culture that encourages community, positive thinking and problem solving. They are inclusive and want the best for everyone in their respective programs. The school has done their part to get my kids ready for what’s next and I’m excited to see where this foundation takes them.
Overall, my experience at Ankeny High School has been excellent, but not perfect. For one, the food is often discolored or suspicious-looking and the portions vary; sometimes students will get more food than other students due to a lapse in the lunch ladies' judgment. Another problem that is here is the surprising amount of drugs. Due to the guidelines and out of respect for the people involved, I will not reveal more information than that. Occasionally, there are violent outbursts by students towards either other students, parents, teachers, etc. To conclude, although the school itself is rather good and 95% of the students are respectful, it doesn't do a good job at monitoring the 5% of kids that act violently.
I love how Ankeny high school is so good at providing ample opportunity for their students. From high level classes, sports, and clubs, there is so much to get involved in at AHS.
