I am having a difficult time deciding which thumb release to go with for both hunting and target. There is nowhere around me that I can try them out so I am just having to go off descriptions and reviews. I like a few of them based on looks and descriptions. A few I like the extra draw length but honestly don’t need it.

1. Simple 1 - I like the fact that you can add 1/2" of draw length and it is suppose to be reasonably quiet, worried it might be too small (I have medium to thick fingers)
2. Whisper - Again 1/2" extra draw length but also quiet and fast to attach
3. Just-B-Cuz - I like the looks and it looks comfortable
4. Insatiable 2 - I like the looks and it looks comfortable and suppose to fit bigger fingers better

Has anyone shot any of these and willing to give their views?

Thanks in advance! :)

I have a Just Cuz and a Whisper. The Just Cuz is the same as the Just B Cuz with a slightly smaller finger hole, and both are basically the same as the Insatiable 2 without the fourth finger position. When not shooting with a hinge, I use the Just Cuz almost exclusively. I like almost everything about the Whisper except I don't feel the trigger tension can be set near high enough, just a little too light for my liking.
That said, if you are fine with the light trigger tension of the Whisper, it makes a FINE hunting release.

I have not tried a Simple one, so I cannot comment on that.

I hunt with a Simple 1. It is quiet, stays on d-loop well and is big enough for my (glove size 10) hands. The adding DL thing is kind of false. I had to make my d-loop longer which pinches nocks less but only longer arms can increase DL.

Selecting a hand held release aid is a total crap shoot unless you can get someone to let you try theirs. I have large hands that measure 9 inches around the knuckles. The Carter Insatiable Plus fits me perfectly. I would not have known which Carter to select without having a kind soul letting me try theirs.

If you cannot find some archers that will let you try their hand held releases try getting an impression of your grip by squeezing a length of model clay. This will duplicate your hand / finger shape while grasping an object. Take several impressions until you see consistency. Compare the clay impression to the Carter catalog page from the computer. The other thing you can do is lay down rulers next to the clay impression and photograph same. Email your photos to Carter and request recommendations.

The hand held release yields the best shooting results due to superior draw hand anchor ( IMO ). The Carter products are very well made and will last your lifetime if properly maintained.

I've shot most of that you listed (as well ans most other releases on the market :mg:) and I settled on the Simple 1. It had everything I was looking for and it just fit my hand better than anything else I've used.

One thing you can count on is the quality of the Carter line.

I would suggest you do what I did and buy used to start with and, when you find what you like, get a new one and keep the used one as a backup. If you don't like one you can probably sell the used one for roughly what you paid for it.

After trying many many releases I ended up with the Just B Cuz. I can't really quantify why I chose it other than it fit well in my hand and it felt good to shoot. All the Carter stuff is great quality so you cant really go wrong. I have decently large fingers and the Just B Cuz is large enough on the finger spacing/hole diameter to accommodate my big ol' mits.

The Carter Plain 1 and Chocolate/Chocolate Lite are also a couple popular releases for hunting and target shooting. Both should be large enough to accomodate larger hands and fingers as well. The Plain 1 also has a quiet attachment where pushing the cocking mechanism locks the gate onto the d-loop, similar to the Simple 1 and the Chocolates. Plain 1 has approximately the same distance from fingers to gate as the Simple 1 and Whisper (and Embers). The release length to gate on the Chocolates is more similar to the Just (B) Cuz and Insatiables.

Just an fyi on the Whisper, it has an open gate/hook design and cannot be clipped and left hanging on a d-loop - if that's something you are looking for in a hunting release.

I have a Just Cuz, a Nock 2 It and a Wise Choice. While the Just Cuz is a nice release, I would actually recommend either the Nock 2 It or the Wise Choice. In my opinion, both of those releases have slightly better triggers than the Just Cuz (I never could completely remove the creep from the Just Cuz). Also, I like that the jaw closes when you cock the releases.

Having said that, like most people have already stated, Carter makes quality products and you probably couldn't go wrong with any of them.

I just got the Too Simple and the Wise Choice. I know these were not listed in your line-up, but I'm like you in not being able to see how they feel prior to ordering which is sort of a crap shoot. To my surprise, I really like both of these releases. I'll probably stick with the Wise Choice as it has the lanyard so if I decide to use it while hunting I will be able to keep it attached to my wrist when in a tree so I don't drop it. But they are both great releases. Might try a Whisper as well.

Out of those options I would buy the Just b cuz. I like the shape, size and full circle index finger hole. Second would be the Simple 1, I like the straight back. The other 2 no thanks.

I have the standard Insatiable, plus the Just B-Cuz and love both.
Both releases fit medium to extra large hands.
I have 2XL size hands and they feel great to me.

I recently switched to a Wise Choice from a Scott wrist strap after 7 years. I wish I would have made the change years ago. Would recommend the Wise Choice.
