2-CD set with 35 tracks features all of Lee Hazlewood's recordings for the MGM label, and it includes three albums - 1966's The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood, 1967's Lee Hazlewoodism, Its Cause and Cure, plus 1968's Something Special which was only released in Germany. Also features the songs Summer Wine and Them Girls which only appeared on 45s, as well as three rare instrumental tracks recorded as Lee Hazlewood's Woodchucks: Muchaco, Frenesi & Batman (previously unreleased).

These albums have never been legally issued before and neatly complement Smells Like Records' reissue program and recent releases on City Slang.

Share this album with young people. Save them from the pure crap mass consumption rubbish. Lee Hazlewood should be as big and beloved as Johnny Cash. The songs contained in this collection are genius. Difficult to describe his style though. Listen to samples and then do yourself a favor: become a Lee Hazlewood fan. I bet James Dean wouldve been a fan if he'd lived long enough to do so. If you ever need to drive thru the desert or the great state of Texas, make sure this is in your player. xo

It's not quite rock, it's not quite country, not quite lounge - it's unique. It's Lee Hazlewood, that's what it is. This two CD set contains all his recordings for MGM. That includes three albums; "The Very Special World of Lee Hazlewood", "Lee Hazlewoodism, Its Cause and Cure" and the never released in the US "Something Special", plus a few non-LP songs. A couple of unreleased songs have been lost and are not included here, including the intriguingly titled "The Lone Ranger Ain't My Friend Anymore". The first two albums are similar in arrangement to the albums Lee produced for Nancy Sinatra, including several of the same songs. "Something Special" is something altogether different, with a jazzy four piece band and scat singing by Billy Strange. If you like music Hazlewood produced for Nancy Sinatra, give the music he released under his own name a listen.

The first half of the first CD is okay, with the odd clunker thrown in. Clayton, I've only played this a couple of times and where is it? You guessed it! It's sitting there, on my shelf, collecting dust. Where is my Strangeloves CD from Amazon? It's still sitting on the shelf at Kim Mills's house, collecting dust, waiting to be ordered. Just like the Strangeloves, this CD was a waste of time and money, but there were half a dozen classics here, making this CD a preference over the Strangeloves. 24 page booklet; every MGM master, lisenced through Universal Music Group.

Buyers should note that this album is essentially a compilation of the 3 albums Lee recorded for MGM: Something Special, The Very Special World Of... and Lee Hazelwood-ism: Its Cause and Cure, with a few bonuses, all of which are now (finally) available individually on CD through the wonderful Water label. The Water editions feature the original artwork, but no bonus tracks, and this comp is a third of the price!

This is prime Hazlewood, and not to be missed at any price.
