His notable roles include Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless, Derek Morgan on CBS’ Criminal Minds, and the lead role of Hondo on S.W.A.T. (2017–present). “The Young and the Restless” star was not very close to his father, Sherrod Moore as per some reports. Shemar Moore was raised by a single mother, and his father wasn’t present in the picture. The father and son repaired their broken relationship but they don’t see each other very often.
Sherrod Moore, an African American, went beyond the boundaries of the societal constructs surrounding him during a time when Interracial marriages were frowned upon to have a relationship with Shamar’s mother who was of Irish and French-Canadian descent. Shemar also said on “Larry King Now” in 2016 that Sherrod wasn’t the best partner to his mother. Because of this, the “Criminal Minds” alum felt the need to choose a side. “I defend my mom,” he told King. “He wasn’t good to my mom.“

Marilyn Joan Wilson-Moore who worked as a teacher in Bahrain, Denmark, and Ghana moved with him to Denmark as an infant, and then to Bahrain when he was four. The duo later returned to the U.S. in 1977

Shemar Moore’s father went to Jail
According to the actor, his dad was imprisoned for four years. “My father ran with the Black Panthers in the ’60s,” he said on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in 2020. “And he got himself into some trouble. And he ended up doing four years in San Quentin.” Sherrod lost connection with his son when he was still a baby.
Sherrod Moore later connected with the son and started building the father-son bond all over again. As the actor says, his father is a part of his life, but “on his terms”. Nevertheless, he found the inner force to forgive his dad and even bought him “a place to live”.
Shemar is not the only child of Sharrod, he has four other children. They are Romeo Moore, Sheburra Moore, Shenon Moore, and Kosheno Moore. Shemar had his four children with his Japanese wife Nobuko Takahashi. She was nine years younger than him.

What happened to Sherrod Moore’s father?
Though Sherrod Moore eventually got a chance to reconnect with his son after many years. However, his son revealed that their reconnection was on his terms. In 2020, Sherrod sadly passed away; his son announced this via an Instagram post that displayed regret and a desire to spend more time with the army veteran.

Shermar Moore’s mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and sadly passed away in February 2020, a month after Sharrod’s death. The actor established a company called Baby Girl LLC, and its proceeds go towards helping people fight multiple sclerosis according to sources.
