A former Harrison County elementary school teacher who admitted to having a sexual relationship with a student has been sentenced to prison.

Amanda Phillips, 40, of Cynthiana, was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in prison. She must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.

Phillips admitted to Kentucky State Police in January 2019 that she had a sexual relationship with a former student at Eastwood Elementary School, where Phillips taught special education. The male student was 13-years-old at time of the criminal acts in 2018.

She was initially charged with four counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

In February 2019, she was again accused of sexual misconduct with the boy when she was charged with eight counts of second-degree rape and four counts of second-degree sodomy. Those charges were dismissed as part of her plea deal.

She is currently lodged in the Bourbon County Regional Detention Center where she awaits transfer to a state facility where she can receive “sex offender treatment,” according to the Cynthiana Democrat.
