Why do people hate Shotzi so much now?

So starting off I'm gonna say I'm a former NXT mark who remembers Shotzi Blackheart as being very fun and a pretty good wrestler. I don't keep up with main roster WWE stuff super well and didn't see MITB 2022.

I have to ask...why is Shotzi so incredibly hated by the IWC now, or at least the guys who make a lot of memes? It seems like everyone is really angry at her but I can't tell why.

Like, ok she joked about a Chris Jericho spot one time. How is that offensive, given that for a while there making fun of Jericho was making up like 3-5 minutes of every Botchamania vid? Is it because she fucked up her spots at MITB? Was that bad enough to get her Nia Jax levels of heat from the internet fans?

Stop reading Twitter

I don't have a twitter, I'm basing this on stuff I've seen on youtube and reddit. Same social media cesspool I guess

u/IDreamofGeneParmesan avatar

Show me a single thread on Squaredcircle where it’s people hating on Shotzi.

I’ll wait.

Being booked badly means that a wrestler automatically sucks in the eyes of some people

They do?

Shes a woman with fame/success who has done/said something that has upset a certain section of men in society. Which means she is now gonna receive social media bashing and snide comments forever /I wish this was sarcasm

This is basically it.

It's a really small minority of fans but this is largely what fuels it, with a dash of tribalism over the Jericho joke (and it was a decent joke. The camera angle was bad. It wasn't bashing Chris.)

Mid life crisis man had some stuff to say about her, and since a lot of his followers have a like minded MAGA mentality, They harras her at every opportunity.

I read this reddit, a discord and a forum... And I've seen no one hate on Shotzi. The Jericho thing among AEW fans I discuss with is a laugh - the camera angle sucked, whatever - and people mostly felt bad about mitb given apparently she had real life issues then looked to have a pretty painful set of botches.

So I dunno. People don't seem interested but I've not seen hate.

That’s gotta be a Twitter thing, people barely talk about Shotzi on here.

I think in Shotzi's case, it's more "situational" than "constant stream", especially directly after MITB this year.

I will say that the worst of it was obviously coming from Twitter, and boy did they get legitimately disgusting, but you did have quite a few users here also trying to argue that the hate she was getting was completely justified because of that GIF she tweeted about Jericho. Not just hate about the match, but racism, death threats, people calling for her to be fired, people bringing up the deaths of her father and step-father -- a lot of genuinely gross stuff.

Then it'd get wild enough that the thread would be locked, and then that cycle would repeat a few hours later. It was probably the worst in that first thread about her, and then began to taper off because of the threads locking, but it was definitely something that happened here.

Who the fuck is even talking about Shotzi

I generally like her but I know she can be sloppy and wreckless in-ring.

Because wrestling fans are fickle. Fickle. Fickle! FICKLE! FICKLE! FICKLE! FICKLE!

I'm only half-joking. ANy time a popular wrestler starts to get some more success, the IWC starts to turn on them pretty hardcore.

It's almost as if wrestlers changing from gimmick to gimmick or company to company can affect a fan's opinion on them or something.

I hadn't seen any hate towards her

u/KongoDonkeyKong avatar

I saw someone on here legitimately say that Shotzi deserved her death threats and racism, even advocating for more to be sent, because she "bullied" Chris Jericho. People can get a warped sense of reality when they get too tribalistic.

I don't watch WWE but apparently she had a terrible performance at MITB. She's been under the IWC magnifying glass since then. Almost like AEW's Thunder Rosa after the "sandbag" incident...now every miniscule misstep (like last week's backbreaker with Jamie Hayter) means they are the worst thing to ever step into a ring.

"What have you done for me lately?" is the fickle wrestling fan's motto.

Not a new thing. I remember it as far back as Jeff Hardy in late-2002, early 2003. Not like the guy gave you some classic matches, dove off ladders and went through tables for 3 years straight just for the ungrateful masses to turn on him when his wrecked body (and perhaps the resulting drug issues) made him turn in some sloppy performances.

Rosa didn't sand bag....Shafer is just awful...

Rosa has injured 2 aew wrestlers, had a real life fight in a match with Ivelisse and then blatantly sandbaged. All of these happened all have 1 common factor.

Ivelisse refused to sell knowing she was losing....so that's false... And Marina is the drizzling shits and tries to shoot fight in wrestling matches and also sells for shit....which you aren't supposed to do...

Also everyone in AEW Injures everyone cause they think not wrestling safe for the IWC and doing dangerous shit is fun

Now it's also come out that Rosa is rude to the aew enhancement talent backstage and is stiff with them. Omg there's just to many things against Rosa, no matter how you look at it it's suspicious

I don’t know which one is Shotzi and which one is Indi and at this point I’m too afraid to ask.

Don’t see hate. People on twitter are something else.

She was awful in the MITB ladder match, she botched not just 1 but both her big match moments, she also looked sloppy the whole match. Now on her last two smackdown matches, I've noticed that she's botched simple moves in those matches aswell. I even went back to a old smackdown recording (I was seeing what was on it before deletion) and Shotzi botched a suicide dive on Charlotte.

Personally I've turned on her because she's sloppy and other women deserve more spotlight above her, atleast until she learns how to be a save worker

I love her persona, she's great on the mic and a really fun character but she doesn't appear to be very athletic. I hope she can figure it out cos I wanna see her stick around.

She's constantly botching the simplest moves and her matches are just clunky and awkward. Look at her match with Rousey last night for crying out loud. She sucks, plain and simple.
