Bantry Bay Seafoods was established in Bantry, County Cork, Ireland in 1991. Our award winning company has patented an innovative technique for processing shellfish. Freshly harvested, top-quality, mussels are purified, vacuum packed and frozen with all the natural juices retained inside the shell. This process enables our mussels to be available 12 months of the year.
The company produces over 6500 tonnes of mussels annually and is well equipped with extensive process control systems (HACCP) and recently achieved Grade A - BRC (Version 5) and Higher Level IFS.
In 2006, Bantry Bay partnered with Mascato, a Spanish seafood company. We did this to build and operate a brand new mussel facility right next to the cold, clean waters of Southern Chile. At over 113,000 square feet, our Blue Shell plant is the largest mussel plant in Chile (and the only one with its own, on-site pier). In 2011 Bantry Bay Seafoods became Bantry Bay America Inc. and the companies were separated leaving Bantry Bay Premium Seafoods - Bantry Bay Mussels Limited (Ireland) independent of the Mascato group.
