Hallmark Channel‘s TV-movie lineup might be missing a familiar face this year.
Actor Ryan Paevey, who has starred in more than a dozen films at the cable network, shared on social media that he plans to step away from acting during 2024, with no plans to reteam with Hallmark at the moment.
“Sadly no word of a [Hallmark] film,” Paevey told fans in an X post on Tuesday. “I may take 2024 off from filming, unless the project is with friends. The last 8 months of life in this industry have left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth, and I need some time away from a world so full of fake friends and empty promises. I’m weary…”
Paevey later reassured disappointed followers that he has “much to be grateful for” and will “figure out a way to stay afloat without acting income,” though he didn’t rule out the possibility of returning to Hallmark Channel for future projects.
“I’d like to think the powers that be know I’d happily do another film if they wanted me to,” he said. “But I don’t know anymore… so I’m just gonna do life, and make plans, and work… and whatever happens happens.”
TVLine has reached out to Hallmark Channel for comment on Paevey’s remarks.
Paevey, who is also known for his work as Nathan West on ABC’s General Hospital, most recently starred in the Hallmark flicks Fourth Down and Love and Under the Christmas Sky in 2023. Previous titles include Harvest Love, Hope at Christmas, From Friend to Fiancé, Coyote Creek Christmas and the network’s Pride & Prejudice-inspired Unleashing Mr. Darcy and Marrying Mr. Darcy.
Sorry to hear that. He’s a good guy.
Really enjoy his person in the Hallmark
family films Hope he received a great movie to start as Great leading actor the best to him

Ryan Paevey is the best actor on Hallmark. I’ve watched all his movies multiple times enjoying them each time. I hope to see him again sometime soon. Good luck Ryan you will be missed by your many fans.
Love him one of the very best!!!! I would watch his movies over and over. He is my favorite!!!!
he will definitely be missed this year and hopefully we can catch back up with him in 2025. He always brings joy hope great spirits and laughter to the hallmark channel and they should not miss this opportunity to keep him around.
Sad news to not see Ryan Peavey in more films, especially with Hallmark. Wish him best of luck with photography and jewelry work – life in general. Hopefully see more acting in the future
Outside of the mystery franchises, the HM films don’t reteam leads. The only lead who has really done more than one film, as different characters, is Lacy Chabert. And some of those were on either side of the tipping point (2017-2018) when HM got so popular, especially in the winter months.
.
But now? Now the leads get 1 movie per opposing lead. They aren’t going to reteam actress 1 and actor 1 in another movie, as different characters.
.
Other male leads have aged into more mature roles, playing single dads/uncles/widowers, or just older characters opposite the older female leads. And I don’t think he likes the older roles.
.
Regardless, HM has started to figure out that HM is the real star. I’ll watch most HM films on Saturday night. If I don’t like the settings or the main plot or the leads, I won’t watch. But I’d guess that I watch 8 out of 10 new movies. Maybe more than that.
.
And it largely doesn’t matter who stars. There are a handful of leads I’ll probably watch no matter what. But HM is the draw. So they can cast whoever and I’ll probably watch. Ergo, they can hire newer (read, cheaper) actors.
That’s not true, Alison Sweeney re-teamed with Benjamin Ayres for Love & Austin after the two starred in the Chronicle Mysteries together, and Victor Webster is now a part of the hannah Swensen mysteries after him and Ali were in The Wedding Veil trilogies.
Fair. The treat the mystery channel and the mother ship differently. But Sweeny’s reteams are like Chabert’s, from before and after the tipping point. Some of the male leads are a little hard to differentiate. Paevy isn’t like that, which works AGAINST him.
I believe he did two HM with Jen Lilley as different characters…but of course she’s left HM for GAC. I’ll miss him because he’s one of the few regulars I will tune into just because. I LOVED him as Nathan on GH!
Upsetting news to this Hallmark faithful fan.
That couldn’t be further from the truth. What about Will Kemp, Alison Sweeney, Ashley Williams, Luke MacFarlane, Tyler Hynes, and Autumn Reeser? If you don’t know these people, than you probably don’t know anything about Hallmark.
Cutest hunk on hallmark. I was never a hallmark fan because the stories were so one dimensional. Since I found Ryan, Tyler Hynes & Chris McNally, I can usually find a movie to watch. I don’t like movies that are so sappy and sweet from beginning to end that they’re not real and I get so sick when the last shot is with two people making out. These three actors to not do that. Hallmark movies always end well but at least with these people they’re not so predictable and I assume it’s because they’re better actors or wait for better scripts. Just my two cents worth. Do you think I over spent?
I like him but after all this time I feel like he’s one dimensional. He has no range. Seems like a nice guy though.
Are you kidding me? Most hallmark actors are one dimensional. I can think of a few who have a big acting range but since this is formulaic and they are hired in my opinion for their adorableness or solid acting in a generic way. I can think of many women on Hallmark who are adorable but their acting is the same whether they play a doctor or a wine maker or a baker or a struggling widow. But they give consistent performances. They won’t get cast in a movie as a drug addicts or Shakespeare actor etc
HM actually has quite a few good actors– some very good– but I don’t think they’re considering talent as much as popularity. Its about money so perhaps this will work out for them. Only time will tell.
TH has no range yet is being cast in multiple HM movies. At least Paevy is truly handsome and humble.
Tyler has range and he’s like the Hallmark anti-hero. I like his scruffy, sarcastic persona. However, in his first HM movie Falling for You, he’s all squeaky clean, smooth shaven and channeling Nathan Fillion! Glad he found his groove thang! 😽
Tyler Hynes movies likely get more views. THAT is what this is all about. Candace Cameron Bure can’t act, but her movies were all big hits with viewership.
When Ryan’s Christmas movie came out in October, I just heard complaints. Actually his last 3 Christmas movies. And a lot of podcasters made fun of his Timeless Christmas acting.
If people hear something is bad they don’t watch.
Tyler is adorable. I love him in movies. I will also miss Ryan..he seems like such a nice guy. Although I have no idea.
I could use a bit of a break from Erin Krakow.
IF…You look into who is running the Halmark Channel now….It’s perfectly clear why this is happening. God only knows they are hurting for
NEW MOVIES….
Until this “new Boss” gets the boot…after running Halmark movies into the ground….maybe we will get the OLD HALMARK….BACK!!!!!
Have fun watching GAC (or whatever it’s called now)…
A white guy from Kansas City runs Hallmark now. What exactly are you saying about Mike Perry? That he won’t cast an Asian actor like Ryan? (Whose dad is Malaysian)
Ryan is Asian?? Had no clue. Are you sure? My daughter is Asian and I don’t think Ryan is.
Hallmark has never been better. More diversity in its characters, still formulate but finding funny, clever stories and doing a significantly better job of showcasing life as it is. I miss Jen Lilley, but refuse to watch anything on GAC. Kudos to Hallmark for recognizing that it’s fans represent all walks of life!
I would love to see the old Hallmark back🥰
Ryan has always been highly regarded by both his fans and coworkers… deemed a genuinely decent man and fun person to be around. His creativity and success as a jewelry designer is yet another facet of his many talents. I have been wondering just why he had disappeared from the screen in recent months and now sadly understand that he is in a troubled mindset. I wish him all the happiness and success in the world and will be awaiting his return. ❤️
Ryan Paevy is hands down my favorite Hallmark actor. He manages to be authentic in the artificial Hallmark world. I hope the producers make room for a really valuable asset.
I love Ryan and am so sorry that he feels let down by friends and associates. The channel needs to respect and treat him well. He is one of our favorites…!!!
Ryan take care of yourself! You will be miss! Just remember we love you and so dose hallmark! You didn’t do anything wrong! When you come back! I hope happy and healthy! Just take care! And your family!
So sad to hear rhis. Ryan is such a wonderful man and I truly enjoy every movie he has been in. I miss seeing him in GH as I don’t have basic T.V. I hope he has a terrific year off and comes back soon. Wishing him peace and clarity In his break. Terri Polanski
I blame Soap Twitter
But seriously mental health is important and I really hope to see him flourish either in another acting project down the line or in something else that sparks a passion
While I feel badly for Ryan but he is an American actor and they were on strike until mid-November. He made two movies last year before the July strike started-that is about what everyone else did if they were an American actor. This has been so so tough on a lot of people.
So basically he has been waiting since December for work. Hopefully he gets something.
But he may want to develop l an IP like Alison Sweeney or Nikki DeLoach-Kris Polaha-all American actors, and Paul Campbell-find a writer or someone to collaborate with. He may feel less out of control with his career.
He is in a very very tough business. Lots of talented good looking people. But this past year has been tough on a lot of talented people because the strikes meant that Canadian actors got more work.
I hope Hallmark gives him some work. He should REALLY star in a mystery.
Yeah Alison Sweeney said she approaches Hallmark with projects she wants to star in. And you’re right, he can’t be sad he hasn’t worked much with both strikes going on last year not to mention Hollywood was still playing catch up with the pandemic. Hallmark is also rebranding so maybe he should be patient.
I too like Ryan… I hope HM starts recasting him.
Canadian actors didn’t get more work just because of the writer’s strike.
There have been a lot of Canadian actors in in leading roles these movies for years.
For example, Andrew W Walker has been in more Hallmark movies than any other male lead. There are 10 more Canadian actors on the list of most Hallmark movie appearances and one Canadian American.
I won’t be surprised if he signs with GAC by the end of the month.
I hope not.
You must not be a fan. He has talked out against GAC MANY times. He has a lot of gay friends and he does not approve of their stance.
In all honesty I’ve cut Hallmark out of my viewing due to their change in subject matter and underlying lifestyle innuendo. I do try to view those with Ryan in them. I’ve switched to the Family Channel which is more in line with my values. Ryan is a marvelous actor and hope to see him back on the screen but I totally understand his reasons.
I’m so disappointed in Hallmark for not letting him star in any movies!!! He’s such a great actor and is one of my favorites. You keep on giving the roles too the same actors over and over. There are other great actors out there also and he’s one of the best!!!!
Too many tyler Hynes movies?
Yep HM seems to have placed most of its eggs in TH’s basket and he is one of its least talented actors. It’s interesting because each movie is an exhibit of the actor’s talent- or lack thereof- and is there for all the world to see, into perpetuity. We’ll see how it ultimately pans out. There are millions of fans who want to see more of HM’s more talented actors,
It is about who watches. Tyler gets people to tune in. He is the most popular actor on the network.
Ryan is certainly popular. But he doesn’t share anything about his movies online or anything. You don’t need to be a wizard to share some happy photos from BTS. ALL the popular actors know how to generate some excitement.
RYAN I’ve always enjoyed all your movies. HALLMARK is making a big mistake with not utilizing your talent. Most of the 2024 are sub par. The new actors could not compare with a Ryan outlet movie. They better rethink the 2024 srason
Hallmark, haven’t you lost enough good actors?
I hope you don’t stay away very long. I have really enjoyed your movies.Good luck to you.
This is a bummer😞😞😞 — hallmark what are you DOING???
Please get Pavey back on Hallmark as everyone I know loves him.
Really sorry to hear that. Wish he had never left GH. Have enjoyed him on Hallmark, though. He seems to have a lot of other interesting hobbies, though, that keep him busy. But hope to see him acting again!
In all honesty I’ve cut Hallmark out of my viewing due to their change in subject matter and underlying lifestyle innuendo. I do try to view those with Ryan in them. He will be missed. My favorite hallmark actor. One of the reasons I started watching that channel. What are they thinking.
They’re not😉
Sorry to hear Ryan is having a rough time..so a break from it is good..burn out is something we all go through so time away to think and reflect is excellent. I’ve always enjoyed his acting talent. I forget he’s acting ..he makes the characters so real.
I can understand think you have friends and finding out they are only fake. Leaves bitter memories. Just don’t let them stay in charge.
I totally agree. Know who are your real friends, and maybe try new representation. Maybe the ones you currently have do not have your best interest at heart.
Take care and wish you the best!
I enjoy the movies you take a part in please know I’m sad your leaving but life is short so you need to do what is best for you. Be blessed in whatever you choose to do!
He needs a primetime series. Or streaming series. Time to move past Hallmark.
Ryan need primetime he’s that good go for it ryan
I’m very sad that your leaving. I have all of your work, even on ” Drop Dead Diva on another channel. I like to know where you go next.
I don’t remember him on Drop Dead Diva?
Hallmark would be stupid to let him get away. I’d watch anything with him in it.
I agree with Myra B. Why would Hallmark not cast him in more movies? That is ridiculous. He would be the reason to watch the movie.
I will miss seeing Ryan on Hallmark he’s great actor handsome too!!!!!
Please stay an acting you are amazing
