After a series of medical issues, Francis L. Grant, Sr., passed away on October 1, 2023. He was 84 years old and lived independently at his home in Cushing, Ok. Francis spent his younger years with his family. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served his country proudly. He was married 3 times and all preceded him in death. Out of these unions came his children, Francis L. Grant, Jr. of Cushing, Donna Grant of Hayward, Ca., and Sara Grant, deceased.
Francis enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives and traditional native ceremonies and celebrations. He was a traditional dancer and loved to participate in dancing contests at various tribal gatherings making many life-long friendships.
Francis was an iron-worker by trade and loved the ability to construct buildings, whether the buildings were high risers or smaller buildings. In his later years, he developed a beautiful talent for silver work and many of his creations survive to this day.
Francis went home to his Creator on October 1, 2023, in the early morning in Cushing, Ok. He was preceded in death by his father, Austin Grant, Sr., his mother, Sarah Grant, his brother, Morgan Saginaw Grant, sister Stella Grant Wilson, and nephews, J Paul Wilson, and Jeffery Wilson and his daughter, Sara Grant.
He is survived by his brother, Austin Grant, Jr., his son, Francis Grant, Jr. his daughter, Donna Grant and many other relatives, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Tribal rites will take place at the Sac and Fox Nation Reservation in Stroud on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, starting at 4:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Hunter Cemetery in Cushing, Oklahoma.
