List of most-visited Roblox experiences of 2012

This is a list of most-visited Roblox experiences in the year 2012. This includes data recorded by Roblox staff in January 2013 and released on two separate occasions―the first of which includes 25 of the most visited experiences. disclosed by JacksSmirkingRevenge on the Roblox Blog on January 7, 2013, and a much longer list by Shedletsky on IronNoob Forums on January 9, 2013.

Background

On January 7, 2013, Roblox administrator Alan Fackler, also known as JacksSmirkingRevenge, published a retrospective article on the Roblox Blog by the title of The Most Popular Games, Gear and Items of 2012. The article looked at three of the platform's major asset types: places, gear, and catalog items, and for each provides a short list of the top most successful individual assets of 2012, along with their respective performance numbers.

IronNoob forums

Two days later, a post listing 1000 of the most-visited places, titled "Top 1000 Places on ROBLOX - 2012. Did you make the list?" was created by Shedletsky on his now-defunct website IronNoob Forums, which was mainly dedicated to "serious" discussion of Roblox, as well as of other popular games such as Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, and Blockland. Several members of the forum responded with complaints about the places on the list, pointing out that they were largely plagiarized and low-effort games, which was a common criticism of the Roblox platform―particularly from older "veteran" players―in the early 2010s.

Discrepancy

For unknown reasons, a discrepancy exists between the Top 15 data listed on Shedlestky's IronNoob post and JacksSmirkingRevenge's Roblox Blog post―while the final game listed on the blog post is Driveblox Unlimited , this is actually #18 on Shedletsky's post, indicating three games have been omitted from the latter, altering the sequence. In addition, Waterlimon's Disaster Hotel, the twelfth game on the Roblox Blog post, does not appear in the Top 15 on Shedletsky's post, although three plagiarized copies are listed in the Top 1000.

2012 was a big year for ROBLOX and our users. Along with the many product releases and events that came along, we released a bunch of new gear and saw our users create a bevy of new and unique ROBLOX games. We thought we’d take a look back at the top 15 most popular games of 2012 and, while we were at it, dig up some item and gear statistics as well. Remember, we’re only counting data from 2012 — some of these popular games have millions more visits when you consider their lifetime stats.

Top 15 - Roblox Blog

This includes the three games listed on IronNoob―Angry Birds Tag, Egyptian Paintball, and Julius5005's Town of Robloxia, that have been omitted from the original blog post, thus making the above heading technically inacurrate.
