Love Lies Bleeding is the second movie from director Rose Glass, whose debut thriller Saint Maud received a five-star review from Digital Spy in 2020.
The supporting cast includes Ed Harris of Westworld fame, Day Shift's Dave Franco and Prodigal Son star Anna Baryshnikov.
Here's what the reviews have been saying:
New York Times
"Glass borrows liberally but not mindlessly. Instead, she takes familiar themes and more than a few clichés — romantic doom, family trauma — and playfully bends them to her purposes."
Deadline
"In Love Lies Bleeding, Glass takes a snapshot of America. Saturated with guns, marked by bloodshed and characterized by lawlessness. However, when you add in some sexy, campy queers sprinkled in for razzle dazzle, you get a film like this full of thrills and captivating energy."
The Daily Telegraph
"Love Lies Bleeding’s total lack of filter is its greatest strength. It’s the sort of film you instinctively want to tuck under a mattress: hot, nasty and mouth-wateringly disreputable, this is cinema with nothing to lose."

IGN Movies
"Love Lies Bleeding combines intense lesbian sexuality with shocking, graphic violence for a film that really gets the blood pumping."
The Wrap
"Glass is always aware of what might disgust her audience and make them squirm, a delightful and intriguing addition to this psychological thriller that is anything but subtle."
Associated Press
"Not all of it works. Heavy doses of melodrama and flashy surrealism sap some of the lurid spell of Love Lies Bleeding. But this feels tantalizingly close to the idealized version of a Kristen Stewart film."
Love Lies Bleeding is available in US cinemas now and in UK cinemas on May 3.
