LIGHTHOUSE - Lighthouse / Suite Feeling / Peacing It All - Amazon.com Music
UK two CD containing the Canadian jazz rockers' three albums for RCA, dating from 1969 and 1970. At one time, Lighthouse boasted 13 members, playing very much their own brand of music and subsequently paving the way for acts such as Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago. They disbanded in 1976 but reformed in 1982 as a 10 piece, and continue to gig and occasionally record. Includes extensive new notes.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I grew up with these albums, finally converted them to cd just last winter, and now this release comes along, so I bought it. Ralph Cole is from Kalamazoo and if you read this please contact me about The Hitchhikers. It just came yesterday so I haven't had time to play it, but I know from hearing these so much the past 40 years how good they are, especially the first album. Tho they kinda lost their way towards the end of these three albums, the next 3 would more than make up for it. Nice to have this set finally on cd.
It’s hard to be objective when reviewing a re-packaging of something that ignites a specific sort of nostalgia; in this case, the peace-love-dove flower power that had become a fashion statement by the end of the sixties. And yet, here we have Lighthouse: Canada’s home-grown version of Blood, Sweat & Tears, wearing their hippie ethos without a trace of irony. To call this music naive and idealistic misses the point: many of us WERE naive and idealistic back then, and this was part of our soundtrack. It’s very easy to hear this collection with jaded modern ears and dismiss it as sappy and poorly produced; to be honest, the only reason I didn’t give this five stars is because the sound quality is no better than the original LPs. In fairness though, in 1969 it was not easy to capture the excitement of a thirteen piece band in the studio, and all three of Lighthouse’s RCA albums were recorded in a hurry. But all three albums are enjoyable, and all of them have excellent moments. From the first album, I love “Mountain Man” with the late Skip Prokop’s extended drum break, and “Follow the Stars” with its wonderfully fluid and spacey horn arrangement. The Second Album, Suite Feeling, is harder to listen to with its murky, echoey sound, but it still contains a wonderful pop song in “Feel So Good,” and “Taking a Walk” is a sweet love song turned into a breathtaking psychedelic tour-de-force. And although others seem to disagree, I think that the third album, Peacing It All Together, is the strongest both in terms of the songwriting and the clean production sound. I never tire of the simple storybook song “Mr. Candleman” (a reference, I believe, to the infilling of the Holy Spirit; see: Gospel), and “Sausalito” is simply the best pop song of their entire RCA period, hands down. So this collection stands strong in my mind as an artifact of a period in time when creative minds were more willing to take chances and wear their hearts on their sleeves. I will always love it.
Have waited for years to see the first album on CD, I finally wore my eight track out. Generally underrated group especially the first album, hoped for an improvement in sound quality and did see some but not what I had hoped for from a modern version.
A good price for three albums, cant say all the material is very good, the band try to emulate Blood Sweat & Tears / Chicago but they don't carry it of. Good percussion and brass when they get a chance to play.
