When Iowa farmer Ray (Kevin Costner) hears a mysterious voice one night in his cornfield saying "If you build it, he will come," he feels the need to act. Despite taunts of lunacy, Ray builds a baseball diamond on his land, supported by his wife, Annie (Amy Madigan). Afterward, the ghosts of great players start emerging from the crops to play ball, led by "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. But, as Ray learns, this field of dreams is about much more than bringing former baseball greats out to play.

Never disappointed re-watching this one. An avid baseball fan, I'd read the book some time before the '89 release and it's been a favorite since. If you're the kind of movie fan I am, you want to be wide-eyed with a smile on your face and immersed in the story. Kinsella has a great story here, translated with a deft touch and delivering a few powerful emotional truths by the ending. These days we crave all of this sort of sustenance we can find.

Just a great film that ages like fine wine. Perfect casting. Perfect writing, and a mystical story that fills the heart with hope and love. Everything is just right and I enjoyed watching every minute just like the day I saw it in the theater 35 years ago. I truly hope there is A Heaven like the one shown here as it brings tears to my eyes see this father son relationship that mirrored me and my father. I never did get to play ball with my Dad he died in Vietnam but I hope...I truly hope I get to see him and play catch one day just like in the movie 🍿
