Erik is a hip-hop-lovin' teen living in Philadelphia who'd rather spend time listening to his idol, the rapper Prolifik. One day, Erik finds himself more entangled in Prolifik's life than he ever imagined possible: Prolifik's been kidnapped, his master tapes are gone, and, through a series of twisted events, the same people who are after the musician go after Erik, too.

You know, I wanna know why BET had this on rotation & why did I wa-- Nelly was in it. That's why. Also, Charli Baltimore was in it, playing a leader of an anti-mainstream rap militia. In addition, this was a early role for Zoe Saldana. Like who would've thought that she would go from being in this to doing Avatar & Guardians Of The Galaxy?

Wow, only the third review for this so far. This is the type of neo-noir that often feels a bit on the funny side, but probably not 100% intentionally. Part of that is due to Dean Winters’ involvement and his inability to deliver a line without sounding like he’s about to break into a laugh. Taking that into account, there are some interesting ideas in the attempt at a caper, but everything just feels too amateurish for it really gel. A very early entry into Zoe Saldana’s filmography and one you can probably skip. The Baltimore Sun gave this 1 1/2 stars and I can’t argue with that.
Despite the cover, Nelly is barely in the movie. (It's a good thing, because he's a terrible actor.) This is primarily a Sam Jones III vehicle and he lives down to the occasion. Dean Winters chews some scenery but that's about it. Zoe Saldana plays the, uh, femme fatale? I guess?
This has the budget of about $34 and is incredibly boring.
How the fuck do you name a movie Snipes and not have Wesley Snipes make an appearance? Don't tell me he's too good for it. Even in 2001. Snipes does, however, have the guy who played Wangler on Oz, Schooly-D, and even Frank Vincent cashes a check without...well, he embarrasses himself by participating in this, but he doesn't do so TOO MUCH.
