Netherlands Euro 2024 squad: Ronald Koeman's provisional team ahead of the tournament
The Netherlands Euro 2024 squad will be confident of mixing it with the favourites at this summer's tournament
The Netherlands Euro 2024 squad currently contains 30 players in the provisional team, with Ronald Koeman having to whittle it down to 26 ahead of the tournament.
Containing a mix of experience, with the likes of Virjil van Dijk, Nathan Ake and Memphis Depay, alongside plenty of exciting young talent in the form of Jeremie Frimpong, Brian Brobbey and Bart Verbruggen, there's plenty to be excited about for the Netherlands Euro 2024 squad.
And while it might not be quite as strong as the Dutch squad that last won the European Championship 36 years ago, which contained players such as Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard, or even the favourites at the tournament, there's no reason why the Netherlands can't surprise a few people at Euro 2024.
Playing a resolute yet dynamic five-at-the-back, Van Dijk, Nathan Ake and Mathijs de Ligt are flanked by Jeremie Frimpong and Denzel Dumfries, while Frenkie de Jong continues to work wonders in midfield. Georginio Wijnaldum is still kicking around for Koeman's side, too, with Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay and Donyell Malen all terrifying attackers on their day. In order to succeed, they just need unleashing by manager Ronald Koeman.
Euro 2024 presents a chance at redemption for the Netherlands, too, after they've failed to qualify for the past two European Championships. With that 1988 triumph did come on German soil, could they take inspiration from their victorious heroes?
The Euro 2024 groups are by no means easy, however, with France, Austria and Poland awaiting the Oranje in Germany, where they'll be looking to progress beyond the last eight of a major finals for the first time since the 2014 World Cup.
Having named 30 players as part of his provisional team, Koeman will have to make tough decisions on the four extra players he current has in his squad by June 7, UEFA's deadline for final submissions.

Netherlands Euro 2024 squad numbers
The Netherlands Euro 2024 squad numbers will be announced closer to the beginning of the tournament.
Netherlands manager: Ronald Koeman
The Netherlands like a returning manager: Louis van Gaal took charge of the national team three times, and Ronald Koeman has succeeded his compatriot for his second stint.
Koeman led the Oranje to the last 16 of Euro 2020 during his first spell in charge, before leaving to take over at Barcelona. He endured a difficult time at the club he excelled as a player, though, meaning he's back in his homeland for another crack at success with the national team.
The Netherlands' star player
Virgil van Dijk
An immense presence at the back for Liverpool and the Netherlands, Virgil van Dijk is undoubtedly one of the very best centre-halves of his generation.
Skipper of the national team for the last six years, Van Dijk has won 64 caps and featured at the 2022 World Cup but has yet to get a taste of the Euros – missing the previous addition through injury. His performances could be the difference for his nation this summer, with his leadership and defending skills dictating how the Netherlands Euro 2024 squad competes.
Kits
Home
For the 2022 World Cup, Nike brought in a lighter shirt with a lion fur pattern, in a bid to revolutionise the wheel that is a plain, orange football shirt. Some bawked originally but sense will out: it was a beauty, admit it.
The Netherlands Euro 2024 home kit can be purchased at Nike.
Away
Inspired by the block shapes of De Stijl – the 20th-century movement of Dutch artwork in which the likes of Piet Mondrian created minimalistic artwork consisting mostly of rectangles of colour – Nike have gone polygonal for the Netherlands Euro 2024 away kit, covering a navy blue jersey in different tones of blue and orange for something modern, sleek and quintessentially Dutch.
FAQs
How many players are the Netherlands allowed to take to Euro 2024?
The Netherlands Euro 2024 squad will be comprised of 26 players, after UEFA backtracked on its original idea to reduce team sizes to just 23 players. Managers complained, and each squad is now featuring 26 national stars.
