With over 20 years of experience in the kitchen, Nicholas McCann, now Executive Chef of Society Cafe, has always been passionate about food. Drawing inspiration from his family recipes, Nicholas quickly fell in love with the culinary world at a young age and began his career at The French Culinary Institute in NYC. This restaurant was a great find for Mother's Day brunch, but I would definitely come back for dinner one day. The service was great, and the food was very good, with a wide variety of choices for everyone, and plenty of vegetarian options for non-meat eaters.

The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff was attentive and very friendly and the food was incredibly fresh and delicious! I was staying at the hotel attached and ate at The Society three different meals, highly recommend!

One if my favorite places to meet friends without a million tables on top of each other. Lovely warm staff good food. My friend and I sat in the beautiful front lobby after lunch to have dessert & finish our chat.

Food was great! Ambiance was very nice. The lush entry, thru the lobby of the hotel sets the tone for the warm sunlit dining room. Staff was momentarily thrown off by our cocktail-ready group, but they gracefully directed us to options beyond the brunch cocktail list. Service was very attentive. We look forward to returning -

I feel the need to write a review because the main reason I booked this place was their availability and it’s been one of the best experiences I’ve had dining out in a long time! The ambience of the restaurant is so lovely and the cocktails were on point. Everything from the bread to steak was delicious. I will definitely be making a point to come back here! And in a city of a million options, that’s saying something!

Society Cafe is located off the lobby of a boutique hotel (Walker Hotel) in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. Please note, this review is based on my enjoying a cocktail and nosh at the bar upon arrival while my room was being prepared as well as Breakfast/Brunch the following morning prior to departure. First to mention, the space is quaint and warm; the decor and ambiance is classic but modern at the same time. So, first impression is that this place is promising. Next up the greeting, the gentleman who greeted me upon arrival, was welcoming, cordial and attentive. I said that I was waiting for someone and wanted just a cocktail and nosh and bar seating would be perfect ... he motioned me to the bar (immediately adjacent to the entrance). I sat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender’s friendly smile, he expertly took and prepared my cocktail order, a goose dirty martini, he shook that drink within an inch of its life, served up frosty cold, smooth, and delicious as can be! He too was kind and warm, inviting not quick to serve and move on, my guest arrived, we enjoyed a few more cocktails, a nosh of Chickpea Fries and Blistered Shishito Peppers both perfect portions that hit the spot for an afternoon pick-me-up. The next morning, we were greeted again by the same gentleman as the afternoon prior, he was again, warm, and welcoming, well groomed (we commented about his perfect hair .. LOL) and ready to run the show; by now I gather he is the Manager on staff and with good reason. He guided us to our table, made sure that we were settled in with our menus and ready to enjoy a fantastic first meal of the day! The menu selections are ample, easy to find something for everyone’s tastes. We had a tough time deciding but chose to split Market Omelet which came with breakfast potatoes Everything Bagel with House Made Lox and a Side of Applewood Bacon ... all portions were perfect and the quality of the preparation on everything was perfect! Room and service were excellent. No free refills on soda be aware, but that’s just a nitpick. Food was very good overall but one of us ordered a kale salad with a protein add-in, and they brought a small dish for the salad and the chicken was in a separate small plate. Why not mix these all together in the kitchen and then bring a single dish or bowl like every other restaurant that opts to put this task on the customer?

Our Chef has elected to serve our add-on protein for our salads separately mainly because they are still hot off of the stove and we are concerned about wilting the greens. We absolutely understand how it could be an imposition on your experience. If you are able to join us again we will be happy to mix it in the kitchen if requested. I hope this explains our thought process a little bit better and we want you to know that it wasn't to make extra work for you but only to try to preserve the integrity of the ingredients. Wait service was great, I arrived early and they had no problem sitting me down earlier rather than waiting my original time of reservation. They were quick with brining out drinks and food and overall a great experience. The noise level was a little on the higher end due to a few birthday brunch celebrations going on but of course no fault to the restaurant. 10/10 would recommend.

As we were staying at the fabulous Walker Hotel-Greenwich Village, it made perfect sense to high-tail it back for post-theater dinner at their Society Cafe. 10:45pm seating on Saturday night, and we were welcomed with fresh hot popovers along with our cocktails, We ordered right away (hard to chose among the many enticing main dishes) as they "close" at 11pm. We were not rushed and were well-cared for by the staff. Delicious way to end our evening of theater and dining in Greenwich Village!

We had a wonderful brunch experience at Society Cafe. A great host took pains to seat us where we had requested when making the reservation, the food was delicious, and the service was professional and attentive. We never felt rushed, despite the restaurant being at capacity. One member of our party is gluten free, and I wish there had been a few more fully GF items, but that is the only way in which our experience could have been improved. Lovely place and staff and great food.

By far the worst meal we’ve had in New York, the service was ok but the staff didn’t seem concerned by the fact we’d left most of our food & the cocktails had to be re mixed, avoid. Edit: In response to Cafe Society response, we made our dissatisfaction clear at the time of dining & it was of no interest to the waiter !

The waiter did not go out of her way to accommodate requests. Staff was not friendly. The food was good, but the dining room was empty. They didn't let us use happy hour menu because we technically had a dinner reservation, but other people sitting ten feet away were ordering from it. The quality of service did not match the price of the meal.

We do have some limitations as we work with fresh ingredients, local farmers and our pastas and pizza are made in-house. That being said, we absolutely should be friendly and will follow up with our server to improve upon that for our future guest experiences. Excellent as always. Wish shaksusha was available earlier than 11am. Love this place for breakfast!

Gorgeous room, pizzas were fantastic, service was great…downfall was the calamari. Awful. Felt like we were given the remaining scraps that had been left in the basket and was overcooked. Won’t order that again.

I like this place, but the food quality is going down, maybe the chief doesn’t care anymore? All the details in the cooking are all less of care, it is obvious. But the price is up!

Very nice setting, excellent service, but brunch was so-so. There were six of us, and no one particularly enjoyed the food. It wasn't bad per se, but bland.
