CATHERWOOD, DR. JOHN A. September 4, 1934 – April 20, 2024 Passed away peacefully at home in his 90th year on April 20, 2024. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Joy of over 60 years (2020) and his loving son, Miles (2012). He is survived by his caring daughter, Lisa (Christopher Case). He will also be missed by his family and many friends. John was a dedicated veterinarian, who established the first 24 hour animal hospital in Toronto. He and his partners built many successful practices in the Toronto area for small animal care. Outside of his work, he was passionate about golf, gardening, kayaking, roller blading and reading. John was an ideas man, who was energized by new ideas and had the courage to pursue them. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the compassionate care that John received at home from his loving personal caregivers Maricel, Ellen, Paula, Sonia and Ana-Liza, affectionately known as "Team John". A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home 6191 Yonge Street, North York on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society.
