Well Documented and Researched Reference Manual for Utah Sightings

Well Documented and Researched Reference Manual for Utah Sightings
Since Dugway, Utah is now the repository of much of what was once held at the infamous "Area 51" base near Rachel, Nevada, ufologists are naturally interested in what biologist Dr. Salisbury has carefully catalogued in this volumn of sightings. It was his belief that the aliens, or more-probably interdimensional beings, have a story to tell, and occasionally allow themselves or their crafts to be seen by mere earthlings, many of them in Utah. Though written in 1974, it was updated and republished in 2010, and features many sightings not recorded in any other book. Dr. Salisbury was a professor for many years, writing or co-writing some sixteen books, most of them on biology, and one titled, The Case for Divine Design, on religious philosophy. The Utah UFO Display includes photographs, drawings, and detailed reports of sightings. He and Joseph Junior Hicks, another researcher, document in spreadsheet form some 80 eyewitness sightings dating back to 1956. He includes as far as possible the names, dates, sounds, numbers of witnesses, shapes, time, estimated distance, and whether it was day or night. Dr. Salisbury includes some of his own beliefs and hypothesis in the book, but it is easy to skip over if it's not your thing. Many events catalogued here do not appear in any other publication. On a personal note, I met Dr. Salisbury on two occasions in 2011, the later in the company of his close, personal friend, Jacques Vallée, author, ufologist and about seven other distinguished roles, including venture capitalist, astronomer and computer scientist. He is a brilliant and well-spoken Frenchman now living in San Francisco with his American wife. Vallée is the actual person writer/director Steven Spielberg based the character "Claude Lancombe" on, who was played by François Truffaut in the classic 1977 film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Spielberg, if you recall, was given access to all of the Project Blue Book files to research for CE3. Some military and government witnesses have suggested "at least 80 percent" of CE3 was based on truth, though the names and places were changed." The Richard Dreyfuss character was fictitious. Spielberg reported NASA sent him a 20-page letter requesting he not make the film. Heathwood, G., ‘Steven Spielberg’ Cinema Papers, April – June, 1978.The Utah UFO Display is yet one more witness in a growing chorus of evidence that the world's governments have been lying to us about alien visitations for most of our lives. To quote Dr. Steven M. Greer's latest documentary, UNACKNOWLEDGED, "We are not alone. We never were."

Don't make the mistake I made and read the ending before the rest of the book. The conclusion Dr. Frank Salisbury makes in the final 2 pages left me wondering if I should continue reading past the 1st chapter. So, it sat for a while before I finally decided to renew my interest in reading it. I'm glad I did.

Dr. Salisbury focuses the book on the strange occurances that have taken place in the Uintah Basin of Utah. However, he cites many other famous and not-so-famous cases as he articulates and examines data from a scientific perspective. He presents some very well thought-out ideas in the process. I find it particularly refreshing that a well-accomplished scientist has finally spoken out against those who summarily dismiss or debunk UFOs. Frank's logic and arguments are detailed yet concise and to the point. He presents all points of view. Everything makes sense except the ending.

That's when we get to his epilogue and the tie to Christianity (more precisely LDS). Frank equates the paranormal happenings of Jesus and others depicted in biblical passages to the strange multi-dimensional encounters associated with UFOs. He states he doesn't 'believe' in UFOs, that he seeks the truth about them. Yet it's clear he 'believes' in his religion. Thus, I find this a bit of a contradiction.

Other than this leap of faith (pun intended), Frank's book is an excellent work and certainly one I'd highly recommend - especially to the skeptic.

Not your typical UFO book. I was as impressed by the writing style as I was with the information. He writes in a clear and unemotional style, with very little of the woo factor so irritatingly present in many UFO books. He obviously knows the area and the people and with his similar background is able to elicit stories that ranchers and small town residents would be reluctant to tell an outsider. While the book is primarily what Ivan Sanderson called a "seed catalog," a collection of anecdotes, Dr Salisbury provides enough connecting concepts to prevent boredom through repetition. I particularly appreciated the background on skinwalker ranch, and the locals’ take on the "scientists" who investigated it.

Finally, in true scientific style, he is forthright in expressing his limitations and biases, which permits the reader to allow for them.

This is a cautious, well written, book, and a model for other researchers.

I am so glad to have enjoyed this book so much. Very interesting; almost captivating. Great record-keeping. Thanks to all who contributed to the book.

If you read one book about UFOs, this might be the one to read. Written by an intelligent, sharp guy with a no-nonsense, “just-the-facts ma’am” investigative style, this book shows over and over again how there is no way a person who is paying attention can avoid coming to the conclusion that something is happening and has been happening for a very long time. It will raise questions that will be very difficult for you to ignore. And the author has a great sense of humor, to boot!

Utah's Uinta Basin is one of the most fertile "hot spots" of phenomenal activity in the world, including the infamous "Skinwalker Ranch." Frank Salisbury has conducted exhaustive research and witness interviews in the region over several decades. The first edition of his book has become a collector's item since it was published in the 1970's. He has tirelessly updated his research and added many more fascinating cases in this entertaining new edition. It is the gold standard of phenomena research in Utah.

With his distinguished scientific background, Dr. Salisbury brings a rare, scientific analysis to this controversial subject. The Utah UFO Display is essential for readers who are looking for vetted, common sense reporting about the many bizarre happenings in this little known and fascinating region of the American west.

I enjoyed reading The Utah UFO Display By Frank Salisbury. It had a lot of interesting information on the subject of ufos and the sighting in the Uintah Basin area. It even had information on the Skinwalker Ranch, pre-Gorman family and before the NIDS takeover of the ranch. I had often wondered about previous owners and if they had seen or experienced wierd things on the place. It told about the experiences of neighbors that lived next to the ranch also. Yes, it was a good book, and I would recommend it. Mary Compogno

While the contents itself are interesting I was disappointed in the author's writing style -- or lack of it. Just as any teacher can determine the quality of a class, a gifted author can make the mundane interesting or, conversely, can make an interesting subject difficult to slog through. Certainly not the worst UFO book that I've ever read, but I'm in no real hurry to dive into it again.

A shame.

I got sucked into the show Secrets of Skinwalker Ranch during quarantine and then went down the UFO rabbit hole and purchased this book. It’s actually super interesting and details many UFO sightings and encounters surrounding the Uintah Basin.
