Being invented over 2000 years ago, there are many regional variants despising the fact that most of them are using the same set of pieces and have the same rules of calculating the score. The game is very close to Gin Rummy, and the goal of the game is to builds sets and to achieve the best possible score. To do this, each player has to select and discard mahjong tiles until a set of combinations has been made.
