Individual Note

Ingamoder Emundsdotter of Sweden, (1043-1090), was a Swedish princess and probably queen consort, and allegedly a local Saint, daughter of King Emund the Old, married to King Stenkil of Sweden and mother of King Inge I of Sweden of Sweden. Her real name is not known; the name "Ingamoder" was allegedly her name as a Saint, which meant "Mother of Inge".

This woman was born a child of King Emund the Old of Sweden and his queen consort Astrid Njalsdotter from Norway. Her brother, Emund, as well as her alleged brother Ingvar, died before her father. She married Stenkil Rangvaldsson in about 1058. As her mother allegedly had been previously married to the father of her spouse, the stepfather of this princess, the marriage would have broken the laws of the Christian church. This has been suggested as a reason why her actual name is not mentioned in any documents. Her spouse replaced her father on the throne in 1061; it has been assumed that the marriage made her husband more acceptable for the throne. Born Princess of Sweden, she is to be considered a Swedish queen if she was married to her spouse when he had become King (that is unknown), and thereby she would have held the rare distinction of being a daughter of a king to become a queen consort of her own birth country.

Ingamoder has been depicted as a local Swedish saint. An old holy well ascribed to a Saint Ingamoder, "The Well of Ingamoder", may originally have been a holy Pagan well, allegedly located since her times in Dala between Falköping and Tidaholm and the goal of pilgrimages, where people offered coins for health until the 19th century. This princess or queen, however, is not an officially sanctioned and recognized saint by the Catholic Church.

Her parentage, at least on her father's side (Edmund), and the fact that she was the mother of at least two future kings, has been considered probable by several authorities. The rest of her story is entirely unsubstantiated and must be considered legend.

The princess is assumed to have had three sons
Eric Stenkilsson, king of Sweden.
Halsten Stenkilsson, king of Sweden.
Inge I of Sweden, king of Sweden.
