Q&A
Was wondering about that. It does feel bigger
Yeah, it's an amazing map!
It is a great map. It's only downfall is having boats be the only thing for mobility.
All the huge blue unbreakable power poles or whatever they are called I’m having a huge brain fart rn have zip lines at the top
Transmission Towers :D
Pretty sure most people call them pylons, at least here in the UK, is it the same in the US?
Yea but thwy are only from retail to power plant
You know those buggy/4WDs? I feel like they're going to be a vehicle sometime during this season
When i first saw them i thought they were rideable
I hope all the new cars become drivable too, they look so good idk why it isn't a vehicle really
Swimming
Hardly ever. I always end up having to go towards the storm and the stream is going away from it
Does make it feel more like early Fortnite though which is probably what they were going for. It’s nice that the loot pool is really simple but I wouldn’t mind bouncers or a launch pad. I think boats are enough as far as vehicles go considering how the river runs in this map, you can easily get to center
You know I thought I missed launch pads. Now I’m kinda enjoying not hearing that whirling sound of death when I’ve finally managed a decent tower but have no trap to discourage hostiles from landing right on top of me.
They just need to add more boat spawns. Then the map would be perfect.
Also drop the spawn rate of rpgs, those are so annoying this season.
Those new cars (breakable terrain) that look like mountain jeeps. I’d love something similar to those to drive around which are basically golf karts but more serious.
That said. This feels like OG fortnite. Unspoiled by both EPIC tinkering and reddit bandwagons. I’d love the game to stay as is for a while. Loot pool has been totally cleaned, pumps balanced, and bursts brought back. All with a clean new UI and fps boost.
Love it all.
I'd like to have a little more weapons and mobility. It almost feels like cod from how you pretty much have the same loadout every game, and it feels like running simulator 2019 as well.
Rpg spam is horrible too.
I agree. They were when available only from loot drops.
I mind the running simulator far less because I actually like low mobility. It keeps the storm feeling relevant and reduces third partying.
Mobility would be best as something like the golf kart (but I’d prefer a different vehicle like a jeep), or 2 man planes in only one POI with no guns.
Anything as extreme/ available as rifts shouldn’t return for a good while though.
Well swimming is faster than running so take advantage
Only downstream... if you try to swim against the current you stay in the same spot. This surprised me but makes a lot of sense and adds an interesting tactical element to moving using the river.
I feel like there gonna add some sort of bus or something. There is new bus models that allow you to enter them and the fact that the roads are all connected and that there is bus stops everywhere seemds odd if they dont.
No more hoverboards?
Nope.
There are boats, ziplines and you can fly in the power plant. And there's probably more that I haven't discovered. I think the mobility options are ok right now.
The power plant is only one place, and ziplines are only in the top right of the map (from what I've found). Boat spawns aren't super common either. I landed in slurpy swamp and the first zone was around frenzy farm. After I looted there was a good 3 minutes of running in the storm, only for there to be a person with a lot of mats, and the storm moving in.
Landed at dirty docks with a duo and we had to grab a boat immediately and still got caught in the storm.
Agree.
Large part of this is because of all the water and no world edge as in you can travel off land into the water some. Not that you'll ever be out there much but it adds to it
It has a smaller grid
Plus the ocean is actually accessible
I didn't think about that.
There’s a twinge of nostalgia about the old “the ocean is a solid block of death”, but the swimming mechanic is awesome
Counting all ocean even ocean that doesn’t show up on the map, this map is huge
But there is a world barrier right? That’s what I remember seeing
not for a while
Wow, pressure plant seemed really big for me, and now it's smaller than that central water "eye"
I'd say it's about 20% to 40% bigger
0-99% bigger one of those
100‰ it's probably bigger
90% of the time, it works every time
That doesn't make any sense
I’m at least 90% sure that you missed the joke.
That’s the joke mate
I always thought the old map was bigger but maybe it felt bigger cuz of all the bloody hills
I have no stats to back this up but I think the hills in the new map are bigger, but the change in elevation is much more gradual, making it more realistic. Instead of running on ground level to very steep cliffs. Honestly think this will make competitive endgames more fair for the players.
I noticed I was able to just slide down most hills without needing to catch myself with floors/ramps so I think you're right about the steepness thing at least.
We still need a mountainous enviroment because mountains are cool.
I hadn’t thought of that...you’re so right🤯
And there could be villages near the top. Where houses would have different elevations. You go down for better loot or up for better highground.
Season event could be an earthquake causing a mountain chain to appear.
Bottom right of the new map
It could use some more mountains and a mountain side village.
Yeah, same. Felt oddly small (but not in a bad way) but it could be because there isn't a hill blocking my movement every three steps.
I was very surprised to see that the map is actually bigger. It felt smaller to me but I think that's because I don't know this map very well and the hills are a lot more gradual instead of being sheer drop cliffs.
land at the edges and race the storm a few times and youll get a good feel for how the map is bigger
Yeah and there’s less mobility so that’s a big factor
Bigger but less named locations
Like s1
They’ll add more over time

Absolutely agree, I feel like making this new map was an excellent decision, even better than 'reverting' the map/
I think now that we’ve passed this “new map” horizon, there’s no telling how quickly we’ll get another new one. My guess is chapter 3 will come in about a year after season 5 or so. Perhaps start of 2021 at the latest. But my guess is sooner rather than later since the new map really revived the game I think epic will do this quicker the next time.
Hopefully not, they ended up making it so cluttered, I’d prefer them to not add locations just change some up, you need a mix of open land small landmarks and named locations, adding more locations is a bad idea
I think rn there is TOO much open space. I agree with you that the last one was cluttered, but I think they went a little too far on the other side. However mobility is NOT an issue this season.
Me personally am I grateful for no mobility, but I feel like they left mobility out, for the most part, just for the beginning of the season or event this season as a whole so we can absorb the map in and enjoy it on foot more.
But I disagree on the “TOO much open space”, this map has a lot more “landmarks” then the last map and more interesting places in between. It has a perfect mix of everything. 11 named poi’s quite a few landmarks and a great amount of open space. The open spaces aren’t too big either allowing for a battle to take place in them
I thought this new map felt a whole lot bigger. Love love love it
The new map seems to be a tad bit bigger
Plus, all the water surrounding the map can technically be played on
Its feels a lot bigger and overwhelming. I wish they left in hoverboards or ballers and unvaulted atvs for mobility. Boats are incredibly fun on land but not not the best.
The overall size of the map makes my own speed feel so much slower and hills are really rough telling what you can run up now.
I agree, I think they’ll add a new vehicle that fits the new map better. They may have wanted to see how mobility was with just boats for now
they have a perfect vehicle they could and should bring back. atks
Yes I agree! Or something very similar, the vehicle is super balanced and is simply for mobility for up to a full squad. So if they unvaulted it or put in something similar that would be amazing
Theory is they’ll add a new vehicles this season in addition to “boats”
I vote unicycles.
The old one felt bigger tbh. Maybe because there were more locations
I like how big the map is but it does feel pretty empty in a lot of parts. I wonder if they'd consider upping the number of people in a match to 150 or something?
It’s great it isn’t filled with poi it really makes the map better
I agree, i like it a lot I just feel like I was finding way less fights, and half the time they were bot fights which aren’t that satisfying. If they’re gonna add bots they should just up the amount of players per match.
I honestly feel like the map is too big for how little mobility there is.
I like the kind of wide open feeling the new map has. Reminds me of Chapter One early seasons. The old map was just getting so cramped especially with all the mobility.
The storm is too fast for the size now, it needs to be fixed
The lack of mobility makes this worse, but if you rotate early, then you'll be fine.
Really? it felt smaller to me.
Way bigger, way way bigger, just visit the Fatal Fields replacement everything is way more spread out and the house is a friggin mansion.
Same, I think it's just the biomes in the old map made it feel bigger.
im sure we will get biomes eventually on this map as different seasonal changes and effects take hold
Really? I keep dying in the storm it’s so massive.
It seems faster too.
Well the farther you are from the circle, the faster the storm is. So if the map is bigger then yes in fact sometimes the storm will be faster.
So basically it starts fast then gets slower as it condenses.
Yeah it’s feels a lot smaller.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of biomes they put on the new map. I'm hoping for a rainforest-like biome.
It is 1.5× bigger if im not wrong. The field of view makes the map look and feel way bigger
Nah they're just giving themselves room to add and change stuff for the next 10 seasons
The fov hasn't changed
The perspective has along with the graphics
I don't know what you're talking about. FOV did not change.
Im saying the graphics and map make it seem bugher than it is
ay but 13 pois vs like 22~ is .... something.
Everything seems more spaced out in pleasant so it's not the same. So even bigger than you think.
