My husband and I stayed at Hotel Milo for a night when we visited Santa Barbara as part of our trip down the West Coast. We had a nice stay!

We arrived just after sunset and asked the valet if they could hold our car nearby because we were heading out to dinner soon, and they were happy to do so. We loved the little details of Hotel Milo like the ivy that was latticed across the ceiling and walls of the portico and snaked up the railings of the hotel. It has a great location with the beach directly across the street!

Check-in was a quick and smooth process. Our room was on the second floor, not too far of a walk from the lobby. There was a cute little seating area on the second floor outside of the rooms. The bellhop helped bring up our luggage and showed us around the room a bit.

We booked an Ocean View, Deluxe Room, which was basic-looking but clean and spacious. The bathroom had plenty of room with a comfortable size shower (and no tub, which was great - no mess from water dripping from the shower curtain). We were glad there was so much room because we had an excessive amount of luggage from the first leg of our trip and we needed to reorganize to ship some gear home that we had needed up north. The bed was especially comfortable, which was great because we really needed to catch up on sleep!

The room rate was $269 for an Ocean View, Deluxe Room, which was reasonable for the area. We had a smooth checkout while the valet retrieved our car, and we were on our way.

We'd definitely consider staying at Hotel Milo again on a future trip to Santa Barbara!

The view from our room at Hotel Milo was superb. Standing outside on our balcony, enjoying the scenic beauty was the highlight of our weekend getaway. It is also very conveniently located, and we enjoyed walking to the places we went. The breakfast was quite good, considering I knew it would be a continental breakfast. I found the room and service to be just average. The shower/toilet area of the bathroom was dated and could also use a deeper cleaning. The front desk seemed confused and the valet attendants seemed awkward in trying to communicate the valet fees.

I was really impressed with Hotel Milo! My boyfriend and I stayed here for just one night and were very glad we chose this hotel. We arrived late morning and were able to check in. We even got an upgrade to a deluxe king with a great view of the beach area without even asking. Staff was so kind and helpful! If you are staying mid-week, there is free parking on the street behind the hotel.

The location of Hotel Milo can't be beat! Right across the street from the promenade. I definitely recommend checking out their bikes and going for a ride. Just beautiful! The pool area is nice also and we spent some time there. They keep their grounds impeccable and have great seating areas with fire pits at night. Great place to have a glass of wine!

This location is in the funk zone that has quite a few restaurants and wine tasting rooms. It's a short drive, around 7 minutes, to the downtown area. They close off many blocks to cars so it was really fun to walk around. Great restaurants, bars, and shopping.

Do not hesitate to stay here and I will definitely be back!!

We are a family of 5 that just returned from Hotel Milo. It is a cute little hotel across from the beach and centrally located so you can walk everywhere. This is the number one reason I booked it. However, big safety issue that the owners of the hotel should change immediately is the one shower door. Supposedly they say this is a European thing. Well we aren't in Europe and let me tell you trying to shower with only 1 door does not work. The bathroom floor was soaked and is very dangerous. After 5 people showering it was a mess with the water everywhere. Obviously with COVID no one is entering the room to replenish towels which is no biggie we just had to get extra every day to mop up the enormous puddles in the bathroom. Also, the floor in the room was not cleaned. There was sand and food crumbs and sooo much dust. Likewise in the bathroom. The tub was dirty but then I realized it was stained that color. The window that must be kept open for the steam was broken and hasn't been cleaned in ages. I am not one of these super picky people but when you are paying $350 plus for a room I do expect some simple things. Oh the fridge isn't really a fridge but a chiller only. Again you deal with it but I think I will find somewhere else to stay in Santa Barbara from now on.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay. I apologize that your stay did not meet up to your expectations. We hope that you reconsider and stay with us again, but suggest that you request a room with a shower rather than a tub the next time if that is a better solution for your family. We have 121 rooms distributed over six buildings on our 2.5-acre property, and should be able to accommodate that request.

As I was attending a conference, we decided to try the Hotel Milo as it was within walking distance of the conference location. The hotel is located along Cabrillo Blvd so it has a nice view of the beach. There are several nice comfortable patios located around the property. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room includes breakfast each morning and a wine & crackers each afternoon. The breakfast is somewhat limited with oatmeal being the only warm item. Unfortunately, there are several downsides to the hotel. The first is that it is spread out and you are forced to use valet parking at $30 a day. There is a mandatory “resort fee” of $25 a day. The bed in our room was sagging badly and should have been replaced several years ago. The walls are paper thin and unless you are a heavy sleeper, do not expect a good night’s sleep. Others at our conference also complained about the thin walls. Three of the four nights we stayed at the Milo, we had noisy neighbors and barely got five hours of sleep a night. The fourth night the room next to ours was empty, but it was only slightly quieter as the road traffic was very loud as Cabrillo Blvd appears to be the “cruising” street on Friday night. While the hotel has been updated, there are still some issues. Our Vinyl “hardwood” floor felt like it had been installed over jello. There were 4 broken floor tiles in the bathroom and the heater was so loud as to be unusable. The rooms are not in line with the cost (especially considering the additional fees). I would have to say that in this case the bad outweighs the good and we will be returning to our usual choice in Santa Barbara.

The website makes this hotel look much more upscale than it is. I was expecting a cute boutique hotel. However, the room felt like a motel 6 to me.

We "upgraded" to the "family suite" since we had our 1-year old with us and thought it would be helpful to have more space. Long story short, if you are considering upgrading, don't. It's not worth it. Our total bill for one night with tax & fees was $570 and based on the photos I am seeing from other reviewers, the suites are not as nice or spacious as some of the other rooms. We would have been better off in a larger single room.

The bathroom reminded us of our college dorm room days. The small sink area is in the main room & the toilet and shower over the tub is behind the door. The tile was cracked, the space didn't feel clean, and the room was freezing when we arrived. We were so ready to leave and glad we only stayed one night.

It was the most expensive hotel we stayed at on our trip up and down the coast and by far the dingiest. I guess you are paying to be close to the beach, but not for the hotel. I don't think we will be back here.

My husband and I went to the Hotel Milo last weekend to relax and just get away. He booked the king size, oceanview suite which was extremely overpriced, but nonetheless, we were very excited about. Once we arrived we were given a room right next to Chad's, their restaurant, which, we were correct in presuming, has an extremely large crowd of people waiting around for tables starting at 7a.m. so trying to prevent being woken up so early, we asked to be switched to a quieter area. The room we were given was much smaller and overlooking the pool and did have a "better" ocean view. Our goal was to sleep in, which we rarely get to do at home. We were woken up at 8 a.m. Saturday morning by gardeners cleaning the pool area with leafblowers. I went to the front desk later in the day and left a message for the manager, who wasn't there, about what had transpired. Not even a call back. To our surprise, we were woken up again on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. I immediately called the front desk and finally spoke to the manager to complain and he told me he had not been given the message from the day before. It behooves me that anyone in their right mind would have such little knowledge of why their guests might spend a weekend at their hotel, and show such complete disregard about their needs. Why anyone would schedule such loud grounds maintenance on Saturday and Sunday mornings, while they're the busiest days at any hotel is beyond me. To add to all this, our room wasn't cleaned once. My husband and I have emailed the manager about our discontent but haven't even received a reply apology. Very disappointed!

Let me first start off by saying the hotel staff was amazing and friendly. They were very nice, helpful and pleasant. The hotel was a little disappointing for the price I paid nightly for the stay, definitely not worth it. They were kind not to charge me a resort fee, because of all the amenities closed due to Covid. The location was nice.
Beach access, bike trail, the harbor, wharf and the downtown area were all very close. I was disappointed by the hotel itself, for the price I paid. They have many buildings in which to accommodate guests and a beautifully small common area. The one building I stayed in, one of the "rooms" was weirdly being lived in by a family. Walking by their open "room" door in the morning/evening was awkward. Additionally, I recognize I paid for a smaller room given I would not be spending much time there, but they should re-name it the "euro sized " room. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The bathroom was a decent smaller size, but the shower was a challenge. They shower door only opened about 1ft before hitting the toilet and then while standing in the shower you were nose touching the tile. I am by no means a large person, I am of normal stature and weight. If I could offer any advise, stay somewhere cheaper because all of the surrounding hotels/motels appear to have the same quality and location.

Thank you for the compliments on our staff, but sorry you were not fully pleased with your stay. You contracted for one of our Milo Minis, and yes they are smaller room sizes. They are very convenient for many guests for a variety of reasons. Our beachfront property spans 2 1/2 acres and is a perfect retreat for many guests who want a direct view of and access to the beach from one of our many courtyards, porches and large balconies even if not from their oceanfront room. The layout is even more valuable to guests who want that quintessential beachfront experience in a setting where they are able to self-distance during this pandemic. Six buildings along 2 1/2 acres of beachfront access definitely provide that even for guests. Your comment about the neighbor ticked me just a little. We seldom have what most refer to as long-term guests; however, we do often have guests who make this their home-away-from-home and several packages available for savings with multiple-night stays. Because the climate in Santa Barbara is so amazing (SB is referred to as the American Riviera), Santa Barbara guests and residents alike freely leave doors and windows without screens wide open to enjoy the fresh air when in their hotel rooms and homes. I hope that you come visit again and choose a different room type if the in-room experience is what you seek most. Warm Santa Barbara regards, Bob

This was our second visit to this hotel; we love Santa Barbara and the location of this place is hard to beat. The style of Hotel Milo is very charming- the rooms are characterful and the grounds are great with plenty of nice places to sit for a drink or takeout. We are a family of four and both times we had a family room which comes with a separate room containing a bunk bed for the kids which they love. Prices are high for what is essentially a motel style of property, but this reflects the amazing location. Since we last came in 2018 we had the feeling that there is significant cost cutting taking place- they no longer offer wine tasting or breakfast as part of the price which is a real shame is that was a big benefit, but they now direct folks to the paid restaurant Chads which we assume is owned by the same people. It was packed every day so from the business perspective we can totally see why they’ve done that. Also, housekeeping was not offered to anyone staying less than 3 nights, although we asked for it twice during our six night stay and they happily obliged. We thought the rooms could have been cleaner (eg. the wooden floor was dirty upon entering the room for the first time) and they are quite tired for these prices (bathrooms need updating in particular) but overall the location, outdoor amenities and character won over leaving us very happy to have stayed there. The bike rental (included) is great too. Coming from the UK we are not big fans of valet parking and chose not to pay the $30 per day fee, choosing instead to pay $15 a day at the nearby harbour car park (5 min walk). If they had offered self park for $20 a day we’d have paid it. Overall still a lovely place to stay- perfect for the beach, pier, harbour and town.
