Early Release Instructions for Thursday

We expect our carline to be longer than usual since we have an early dismissal on Thursday, May 23, with no Extended Day.

Please follow these directions to ensure a smooth dismissal process for everyone.

Lining up at Woodlawn

  • Families with last names beginning with A–L should start lining up for an 11:25 A.M. dismissal.
  • Families with last names beginning with M–Z should join the line-up no earlier than 11:35 A.M.

Extended Day, Three-Year-Olds, and Carpool Tags: If you regularly pick your children up from Extended Day or the side gate for Three-Year-Olds,  please have the carpool tag in your car or take a picture of it to keep handy on your phone. On early release days, the yellow carpool tag is required for your child to be picked up in the regular carline. If the tag or a picture of the tag is not presented to the carpool scout, you will be asked to park your car and go into the main office to pick up your child. If you do not have the required carpool tag, please visit the front office before Wednesday to pick up a new one from Mr. Alexanderson.

Adhering to these times will help us keep the Woodlawn lot from overflowing into Milledge Road and allow us to move the carpool line quickly and efficiently. Thank you for your cooperation and have a great summer!

Closing Convocation Thursday

Closing Convocation will take place Thursday, May 23, at 8:30 A.M. in the gym. Parents are invited to join this all-school chapel and students are to dress in chapel wear. Please note that parking will not be available in the Reid lots, but the carline side of Woodlawn will be available for our families to park after carpool ends. We hope to see you there to help us celebrate our faculty and staff’s contributions and a wonderful year of school!

Magnus Health Launch

Last week, new and re-enrolled families received an email regarding Magnus Health and required forms for the upcoming school year. If you did not receive this email please let us know. Forms should be filled out by July 1. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Woodward or Mindy Golden.

As we begin to use the features in our new Magnus Health Record software, I would like to let you know about the treatment notes feature I will use. Each time your student visits the nurse’s office, I will complete treatment notes that will give you information about what your student came in for, along with any assessment/interventions given on my behalf. Those notes will always be accessible through the Magnus app or website. However, in some cases, I will also email you so that you know about the visit and any treatment given. You will not get an email every time. If your student comes in for a bandaid, I will simply log it, and then you can look under the treatment notes section of your app or the website to see all of the visits your student has made. I will always call if it is something emergent or needs immediate attention, but this extra feature will allow for better communication during clinic visits. Please let me know if you have any questions –  Mindy Golden

Service Learning

This has been a great year of service and learning! Serving others is an important part of our school experience. It is an extension of our Episcopal Baptismal Covenant in which we seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves.

From Panther Cubs through 8th grade, students have been serving and learning through school-wide opportunities, partnering with Golden Harvest, ReStart Augusta, and RISE Augusta. We’ve also supported local animal shelters, offered assistance to those experiencing homelessness, and built beds for those in need. For each service opportunity, students and faculty worked through a cycle of awareness, education, action, and reflection.

As a final reflection for the school year, students were invited to make helping hands to share their reactions to their service experiences. Here is some of what they shared:

  • “I like helping because it helps me to grow in empathy.”
  • “I have been a helper by checking on my friends when they are hurt.”
  • “I like helping because it makes a difference in the community.”
  • “I have been a helper by loving my neighbors as myself.”
  • “I have been a helper by cleaning my messes when I am done playing.”
  • “The most important thing is helping them in Christian kindness.”

Plans are already underway for next year’s service opportunities, and we are excited to continue to see

EDS Panthers in Service!

Congratulations to Porter A. and James L. on Being Named Westminster Schools of Augusta Honor Scholars!

Two members of the EDS Class of 2024, Porter A. and James L., were selected as recipients of the prestigious Westminster Schools of Augusta Honor Scholarships. The scholarships offer exceptional students the opportunity to embark on their educational journey at Westminster with significant financial support. While academic excellence is valued, the selection process for the Honor Scholarship extends beyond test scores and written applications. Westminster seeks students with academic talent as well as personal integrity, leadership potential, and a commitment to serving others.

To identify candidates who embody these qualities, Westminster conducts a rigorous selection process that includes the Westminster Experience Day. During this event, applicants undergo individual interviews, providing a platform to showcase the unique strengths and qualities that set them apart.

The Honor Scholarship covers fifty percent of tuition expenses and is renewable annually for recipients with a minimum academic average of 85. Additionally, recipients must continue to exemplify the attributes of an Honors Scholar, ensuring a sustained commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and service.

This recognition is a testament to the outstanding qualities exhibited by Porter and James throughout their years at EDS, and it marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in their educational journeys at Westminster.

Clay Target Shooting Team Info

Rising Middle School Parents (incoming 5th through 8th grades),

The coaching staff of the Clay Target Shooting Team is eagerly preparing for the 2024 season.  Last year, the team took 2nd place in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League. Our shooters participated in events in Augusta, Statesboro, and Savannah and represented EDS with pride.

As we head to summer break, we want you to discuss with your child/children if they would be interested in participating on our Clay Target Team.  It’s an extremely rewarding experience which operates across a level playing field, much like golf.

In order to participate, each shooter is required to take and pass a Hunter Safety Program.  Safety is our number one priority and we can not stress the importance of proper gun safety and etiquette enough.  Because of that, we encourage you to go ahead and have your child(ren) complete the program and receive their Hunter Safety Certificate.  Please find a link to begin that process here: https://www.hunter-ed.com/georgia/ You will need to set up an account for your child and the website should walk you through that process.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us directly:

Spring Football

Dear Parents,

As we gear up for another exciting year of athletics at EDS, we’re thrilled to announce that our football program is kicking off its preparations for the 2024 fall season with spring football practice. This tradition is a cornerstone of our athletic department, and we invite all interested middle school players to participate.

Spring Practice Details:

  • Week 1: May 20th – May 23rd
    • Location: Walton Way Campus
    • Time: 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Week 2: May 28th – May 30th
    • Location: Flowing Wells Campus
    • Time: 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

During spring practice, there will be NO CONTACT. Players will only wear helmets as they begin learning the essential drills and skills for the upcoming fall season.

Help Us Prepare: To help us plan accordingly, we kindly ask that you fill out the form linked below. Even if your child cannot attend the spring practices but intends to play football, completing this form will provide us with valuable information about our numbers for the fall season.

Safety First: We understand the concerns surrounding football injuries and prioritize our players’ safety above all else. Coach Josey is certified in USA Football Heads-Up Tackling and Atavus Tackling techniques. While we cannot eliminate the risk of injuries entirely, we are dedicated to teaching proper techniques and minimizing risks.

Playing Time and Team Composition: Our football team includes students from 5th through 8th grade, and playing time is determined by various factors, including player size, skill level, and the opposing team.

Get Involved: Whether your child is a seasoned player or curious to try football for the first time, we encourage them to sign up for spring practice. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for the sport and meet fellow teammates. Summer workout information will also be shared during the spring practices, so don’t miss out on this crucial step in our preparation for the upcoming season. Thank you for your continued support of EDS Athletics. We look forward to seeing our Panthers on the field!
