Introduction to Xianning

Xianning is situated in southern Hubei Province and has long been known as Hubei's South Gateway. Being the site of the Red Cliff and an inland new town of nuclear power, Xianning enjoys the advantages of mountains, waters, geography, location, culture, scenery, energy and development. Xianning-an open city of convenient transportation

Located in Central China and southern bank of the middle reach of the Yangtze River, Xianning stands at the crossroads between Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi Province. It borders Jiangxi to the east, Hunan to the south and Wuhan to the north. The average distance from Xianning to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu is about 1000 kilometers away from the air, which makes it one of the key cities in Wuhan Metropolitan Circle. Xianning has major rail lines, including the Beijing-Guangzhou line, Beijing-Zhuhai Highway, many state highways, and a large stretch of the Yangtze River, thus greatly enhance its leading role in transportation and shipping. Xianning- a historical city being time-honored

For over thousands of years, Xianning had left her footprints in the long stretches of Chinese history. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period, the Kingdom of Chu conquered the Central Plains, where Xianning was a part of it. Back to Neo-democratic Revolution, it was also a crucial part of the revolutionary base area. Xianning had set up its organizational system as a county since Han Dynasty, which is more than 2200 years ago. Xianning governs 1 district, 4 countries, 1 city and 1 provincial-level development zone. They are Xian'an, Tongshan County, Chongyang County, Tongcheng County, Jiayu County, Chibi and Chibi-Xianning Economic Development Zone, respectively, with population of 2.86 million in an area of 9861 square kilometers. Xianning boasts profound cultural heritage, including a lot of famous historical events and celebrities, for example, Peng Dehuai, Li Xiannian, Shen Congwen and Bing Xin. Leaders of Central People's Government like Jiang Zemin, Hu Yaobang, Li Xiannian, Zhu Rongji, etc. also left their footprints here.

Xianning- an energy city with abundant resources

Agriculture and forestry are two of Xianning's biggest industries. It is known by 5 names, "City of Laurel Blossom", "City of Nan Bamboo", "City of Ramie", "City of Tea" and “City of thermal spring". There are more than 50000 mu (6 English acres) of laurel trees with the total output and quality ranking the 1st in China, and with 1.6 million mu of Nan Bamboo accounting for more than 80 percent of Hubei's total output. For ramie and tea, the total outputs are 29000 tons and 16900 tons respectively. Mineral resources are also an important part of Xianning's economy. More than 50 minerals have been explored, for example, marble, gold and moorstone, all of which have a great potential. Xianning is also crowned as the “No. 1 Hot spring in Central China”. It is mineral water containing natural radon which may cure diseases. In recent years, it cooperates with several state-level energy enterprises to explore its natural gas, biological energy and hydroelectric energy etc. The State Nuclear Power Engineering Corp. Ltd. had added two new AP1000 units at the Xianning nuclear power plant project.

Xianning- an inhabitable city of scenic environment

52.3% of Xianning is forested, making it a natural oxygen source and a desirable place for living. The region is rich in tourist resources. Jiugong Mountain Scenic Area in Tongshan is a nice place for summer and sightseeing with its peculiar landscape. Ruins of Chibi ancient battlefield, scenery of Lushui Lake, the big limestone cave holding water in Tongshan and other scenic spots, make the tourists linger on and forget to return with their special landscape. Some up-scaled enterprises have invested more than 20 billion to develop tourism.

Xianning- a harmonic city of peaceful and contented life

In recent years, Xianning government has put much greater efforts on infrastructure, thus making prominent improvement on supporting facilities like water supply, electricity, transportation and communication. There are also improvements on education, public health, sports and business environment, all of which combined provide much more friendly and efficient atmosphere for both domestic and oversea investors. Xianning had been crowned as the “Credit A Level City” for 6 years consecutively. Xianning- an uprising city full of vitality

After 30 years from the Chinese economic reform, the Xianning government has stick to the notion of scientific development and takes good opportunities to develop economy, maintaining sound and persistent growth which has exceeded the average provincial level. In 2011, Xianning’s total investment in fixed assets reached RMB 56.31 billion, representing a growth of 40.9% from the previous year. Fixed assets investment amounted to RMB54.96 billion, rising 41.3% from a year earlier. Investment in Primary industry, Secondary industry and tertiary industry were RMB 3.17 billion, 26.54 billion and 25.24 billion, respectively. According to different ownership, state-owned sector output surged 37.3% to RMB11.5 billion in 2011. Collective economy and private economy realized output of RMB 13.09 billion and RMB 14.08 billion, constituting 69.2% and 34.2% while output of other economy amounted to 13.62 million, counting 69.2% of growth than a year before.

Relying on its abundant natural resources, Xianning has developed eight distinctive pillar industries: the spinning and weaving of linen and cotton; forest-processing and floor-boarding materials; building materials; medical sanitary materials; metallurgy subsidiary materials; abrasive implement for painting and attaching and "green" food. In recent years, these pillar industries have expanded gradually while the pace of modern agriculture with characteristics have been driven forward, combining Nan Bamboo, tea, ramie, vegetables, kiwi and Lei Bamboo. Modern service industries featuring entertainment and tourism, financing and insurance, trading and logistics etc. are also on the rise. Being both the experimental site of the "Two Oriented Society" and a pilot city granted by central and provincial government of practicing the theory of scientific development, Xianning is embracing the best-ever opportunity in history. Xianning government has made critical decisions of economic development, aiming at RMB100 billion of GDP citywide as well as 10 billion of local fiscal revenue by the year of 2015. Other targets are: RMB10 billion of downtown population with area of 100 square kilometers, RMB10000 of average net income per capita of rural people, etc. Xianning's future will be better and brighter.
