What The Good Schools Guide says..
Hockey and cricket dominate for both boys and girls, with plenty of club and county level players, though school still struggles to shake off its rugby-is-king reputation. Head said he might even move poor Jonny Wilkinson’s jumper from reception to get the message across. As is so often the case with one-time weak spots that schools hone in on, stretch and challenge is now on fire. ‘There is a philosophy of investing in dynamic teachers who are utterly. ridiculously passionate about their subjects,’ we heard. A further culture shift has been towards…

What The Good Schools Guide says
Headmaster
Since 2015, Adam Williams, previously deputy head of Glasgow Academy. Has also been head of geography at Bradfield (his alma mater) and Oakham. Impressive cricketing and golfing skills in his youth took him into national teams both at school and university (Durham, where he studied geography). Speed golfing is his latest fad – if it’s anything as quick as his wit and fast as his talking, trophies await.
Born Down Under, he is unaffected and laid back, with an open face and the hint of a twinkle. ‘He's the reason I chose the school,’ said more than one parent about him and, unusually, some pupils too: ‘He came to our school and did this amazing talk on how friendly and fun the school is – me and my best friend decided...

Special Education Needs
The school is sympathetic to pupils with specific learning difficulties and there is a small Special Needs Department that provides support for a range of learning difficulties. The Department aims to help students to become effective learners, while ensuring that awareness of special needs is regularly reviewed so that teachers can meet students' needs across the curriculum. Students are intially identified through prep/primary liaison, screening tests and referrals by subject teachers and concerns expressed by parents. Following further investigation a programme of support is put into action ranging from differentiation within the classroom, to small group-work and 1-1 tuition with a specialist teacher. Progress is monitored and review sessions organised with pupils, staff and parents where appropriate. For further information you are welcome to contact the Special Needs Coordinator on 01256 860257
