A feuding brother and sister entangle the fate of an old friend.
This is written and directed by Theresa Rebeck, who is apparently an award-winning playwright. I am stunned, because this is the most nonsensical movie about familial relationships that I have seen in recent times. Other than some kind of boring fight over a “ranch” (maybe I’ve been watching too much Yellowstone cause this looks way more like a garden in the country to me), I couldn’t really tell you the plot.
Nor have I a clue about what is going on with anyone in this film, nor which genre it purports to be, but we do get plenty of Bill Pullman grunting and exhaling for no reason (his speciality) and lots of squinting off into the distance as prelude to Hallmark-level childhood flashbacks, so I guess that’s all that matters.
Despite the talent in front of the camera, this is a trivial story of family monetary quarrel and it’s predictable reconciliation.
This is my 5th attempt to write this review…..not because of the movie but because I’m a bit blocked as of right now. But I have coffee and the cheetah is downstairs looking out his window and the day of college football is over.
I picked up “Trouble” at my Family Video store as a blind buy. The cover looks a little intense but don’t be put be off by it,its a twisty somewhat gentle comedy-drama with an outstanding cast led by Bill Pullman and Anjelica Huston playing a estranged brother and sister who are headed for trouble.

World Premiere with Anjelica Huston and Theresa Rebeck in attendance.
I thought the performances were delightful (even if the story was a bit wobbly). My Queen Julia Stiles was in this and really that is all I ask for.
P.S. Let Anjelica Huston skip me in line for the bathroom post-screening and she is the most delightful, lovely, and gracious. 😭🙏
